GoFrogs: No. 7 TCU Soccer Beats BYU, 2-1, to Advance

KANSAS CITY, Mo.
- The No. 7 ranked TCU women's soccer team topped BYU, 2-1, in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday afternoon at CPKC Stadium. Cam Patton assisted on goals from Caroline Kelly and Seven Castain to help lead the Frogs to victory, Megan Plaschko made four saves in the contest.

The Rundown
In a match that started out as a bit of a chess match, it was Bella Diorio that fired off the match's first quality shot of the contest in the 18th minute. Her crossbody shot that found the hands of a diving BYU goalkeeper. Just two minutes later, BYU's Mackenzee Vance put the Cougars up 1-0 as she gathered a ricochet pass inside the six and fired it home.

TCU turned up the heat after falling behind. The Frogs had many looks at the equalizer as Kelly's shot on a free kick in the 28th minute missed left. Camryn Lancaster had a look in the 37th minute but shot it just right of the goal.

The Frogs finally found paydirt in the 40th minute. Cameron Patton beat her defender down the right side of the box and placed a perfect ball to Caroline Kelly inside the six for the perfect tap in and a 1-1 game.

Less than a minute later the Frogs struck again. Seven Castain gave the Frogs the lead with her 13th goal of the season. Patton fired a strike that bounced off the pitch and found Castain's right foot. With just a flick of her foot, the Frogs had a 2-1 advantage.

The second half saw some physical play as the Cougars looked to even the score. One of their best chances came in the 73rd minute as a Cougar forward took a shot from the top of the eighteen, but it found Plashcko's hands.

In the final minute, the Cougars had the ball inside the box but a great defensive effort from Maddie Mooney and Jennie Immethun stifled the Cougar's final chance as time expired.

Quote of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell

Thoughts on the game

"It was a hard-fought game by both teams. The game could have gone either way, but I thought we responded well in the first half to their goal as we scored two goals before the half. We really battled in the second half and it went back and forth a little bit as both teams had opportunities. I am really happy with the performance of our group, especially at the end as we were trying to end the game. We did some things tactically that I was really proud of. Happy to be advancing and look forward to playing whoever advances."

Thoughts on Seven Castain and Caroline Kelly
"We are fortunate enough to have some kids that can put the ball in the back of the net and those two have done a really good job of scoring some big-time goals for us and we needed both of those goals today. Really proud of them."
