TCU Victorious to Begin 2022

FORT WORTH – No. 5 TCU men's tennis (1-0) started the 2022 dual season with a 6-1 victory over UTRGV on Wednesday night inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Horned Frogs played with just five players, winning both doubles matches and all five singles courts without dropping a set. UTRGV's lone point in the match came via forfeit at No. 6 singles.

"It's great to finally get our season started," head coach David Roditi said. "We've been thinking about this date for a long time. Both teams had to deal with some issues with COVID, obviously us with only five players. It was great to get out there and compete. It was fun to see see the joy in our guys to be back playing again and get that win. I was proud of them. When you're down 1-0 before the match starts, that's a challenging situation and requires everyone to play well. Our guys did a great job in doubles to get up a break early and sustain that well. Now, we get one day to get ready for the best team in the country, the defending champions in Florida. We would love to have as many people out to support. We play at 6 o'clock, indoors. We'll take one court out so that fans can spread out and enjoy the match at court level. I'm glad we've got our first win of the season and can't wait to play in front of a big crowd Friday night. Go Frogs!"

TCU improves to 40-9 all-time in season openers and 10-2 under Coach Roditi.

So it was COVID protocols and not injuries to Ruehl, Aguilar and Vives that left us with only 5 players. Hopefully, they'll all be back for #1 Florida on Saturday.
