Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners handed the No. 11 TCU Horned Frogs a 4-2 loss Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The Sooners scored three times with two outs and turned four double plays against the Frogs.

Taylor Featherston had two hits and scored two runs to lead the Frogs. On the mound, starter Paul Gerrish (1-2) turned in a solid outing. He allowed three runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. The senior didn't walk a batter and struck out six. Trent Appleby tossed the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Jerome Pena, Jason Coats and Featherston each tallied two hits. Josh Elander collected the lone RBI for the Frogs.

A pair of two-out runs in the top of the first put the Sooners on top. Tyler Ogle singled to start the Oklahoma rally and scored on a Cameron Seitzer double. Garrett Buechele lofted a single to right field that allowed Seitzer to score the second run of the inning.

TCU saw a golden opportunity to push across some runs go by the wayside in the bottom of the first. The Frogs loaded the bases with a hit and a pair of walks with nobody out, chasing Sooner starter Drew Verhagen from the game. Jeremy Erben did the job in relief, stranding the runners and keeping it a 2-0 Sooner lead.

Two Sooner errors allowed the Frogs to cut the Oklahoma lead in half. Featherston singled and moved to second on an error to lead off the inning. A wild pitch on a strikeout put runners on the corners and a failed pick-off attempt allowed Featherston to score TCU's first run of the ballgame.

Oklahoma threatened again in the fourth as it tried to extend its lead. Cody Reine doubled with one out and tried to score on a base hit off the bat of Caleb Bushyhead. Brance Rivera unloaded a strike to Bryan Holaday, cutting Reine down at home to keep it a 2-1 deficit.

The Frogs attempted to tie the game in the fifth, only to see the tying run thrown out at home. Holaday singled with two outs and Coats doubled down the right field line. Holaday tried to score from first, but was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning.

The Sooners translated the momentum into a run in the top of the sixth. Seitzer was hit by a one-out offering by Gerrish and moved to third on a Buechele base hit. Reine single to drive in Seitzer, extending the Sooner lead to two, 3-1.

TCU got the run back in the bottom of the inning to pull back within one, 3-2. Featherston tripled with two outs and scored on a scorching line drive to left off the bat of Elander.

Oklahoma got a big insurance run in the top of the ninth to open up a 4-2 lead. Casey Johnson singled with two outs and scored on a triple off the bat of Danny Black.

Trying to rally in the bottom of the ninth, Brance Rivera led off the inning with a bloop single to right. Pena dropped in a one-out single to left to put the tying runs on base. Oklahoma closer Ryan Duke got the job done, getting a double-play ball to end the game.

TCU falls to 20-7 on the season. The Frogs will hit the road for a three-game non-conference series at Houston this weekend. Friday night's series-opener is slated for 6:30 p.m.
