GoFrogs: Mokaleng Books Ticket to Austin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – TCU track and field secured its second qualifier to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at the West Prelims. For the second consecutive outdoor season, Derrick Mokaleng clinched a spot at the national meet in the men's 400m.

After running 45.66 in the prelims on Thursday, Mokaleng improved his time to 45.46 on Friday and finished third in his heat. From three heats with eight competitors in each heat, the top three finishers and the next three fastest times advance to the final site. Individually, Mokaleng has reached the final site in the 400m both indoors and outdoors the last two years. At last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships, Mokaleng earned Second-Team All-America status.

In the men's 100m quarterfinals, Tarrik Brock finished 12th overall with a time of 10.32. However, a third-place finisher from another heat who finished in 10.36 advanced instead of Brock.

The Horned Frogs will wrap up the NCAA West Prelims on Saturday with five events. All four of TCU's relays will compete and Chengetayi Mapaya will look to reach the NCAA Championships in the men's triple jump. TCU's first event will be the women's 4x100 relay, scheduled for 8 pm CT.
