GoFrogs: TCU Makes it 10-Straight Wins

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 9 TCU men's tennis team moved its win streak to 10 straight on Tuesday evening as the Horned Frogs swept cross-town rival SMU, 4-0, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.

The Mustangs (10-11) jumped all over the Frogs (15-3) in doubles action as they were up a break on two of the courts. The No. 6 pair of Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder did not falter at the top spot as the duo got their eighth straight victory with a 6-3 win. TCU dropped the match on court three and had to battle to a tiebreaker on court two for the doubles point. The freshmen duo of Luc Fomba and Sander Jong were able to get it done as they scored the 7-5 win to give the Frogs the early 1-0 lead.

The slow start to doubles did not translate in singles action as Jong and Fomba cruised to straight-set wins. Jong got a 6-1, 6-0 win on court five, while Fomba took the 6-3, 6-2 win on court four. No. 25 Alastair Gray was able to clinch the overall match victory as the junior got his eighth straight victory and sixth over a ranked opponent with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 74 Carles Sarrio at the top spot.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"Rivalries are special and they are always an unknown. Today was no different. We needed a miracle to win the doubles. I give credit to our guys at No. 2 for hanging in there until the very end because they found a way. SMU was all over us at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles from the start. We must do a better job at the start of doubles. In singles, we won some key first sets to make it seem too hard for them to comeback. Rivalries can bring the best and worst from each team and today was no different."
