GoFrogs: TCU Blasts Baylor, Advances to Indoor Nationals Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas –
TCU is booked for the quarterfinals of the ITA Indoor National Championships for the fourth consecutive season.

The top-seeded Horned Frogs clobbered tournament host Baylor, 4-1, in the round of 16 on Friday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

TCU claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, with Duncan Chan and Albert Pedrico securing the clinch via a 6-4 decision over Ion Chirita and Zsombor Velcz in the third position. The Frogs took five of six opening singles sets and were paced by victories on courts two, three and four by Pedro Vives, Lui Maxted and Chan.

"We knew this would be a touch match," said head coach David Roditi. "We just played them here three weeks ago, and it's hard to go back-to-back wins on the road. With their crowd – they're the host – we knew it'd be tough, and it was. I thought the guys did a great job with the doubles and came out and won a bunch of singles first sets. Two critical tiebreakers there at one and two. Never a dull moment here, so just proud of the guys for sticking in there with whatever run Baylor would make, and the guys responded well."

TCU (7-1) faces No. 9 Columbia at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for a spot in the semifinals. The Frogs were the only higher-seeded team in their half of the bracket to win on opening day. The Toreros knocked off seventh-ranked Duke in a 4-3 thriller. No. 11 Stanford and No. 21 UCF comprise the second quarterfinal tilt in Waco.

The Horned Frogs notched their eighth straight win at the expense of Baylor and second in 2025. TCU downed the Bears by an identical score and at the same venue on Jan. 21.

With the win, TCU improved to 19-9 all time at Indoor Nationals. The Horned Frogs have won 12 of their last 13 matches at the annual event.

Doubles Rundown
TCU rolled out an identical doubles lineup and was victorious in the same positions as its January win in Waco.

The Bears got on the board first, as Devin Badenhorst and Luc Koenig notched a 6-3 defeat of Jack Pinnington and Cooper Woestendick in the second position. Pinnington and Woestendick surrendered their first service game and were unable to convert a deuce point down 1-3.

Baylor's lead was short lived, though.

Vives and Maxted landed a crucial break up 4-3 on Oskar Brostrom and Marko Miladinovic in a battle of top 10 tandems. Maxted served out the match on a deuce point.

The break from Vives and Maxted, the nation's No. 2 ranked doubles pair, transpired with Chan and Pedrico level at four games all. Pedrico subsequently smashed a forehand on an ad out, then punctuated the 1-0 head start on serve.

Vives and Maxted's match marked their second victory in three tries over No. 9 Brostrom and Miladinovic in 2024-25. The reigning NCAA doubles champions improved to 15-2 overall and 11-0 vs. ranked pairs. Vives and Maxted are 6-0 in top 10 tilts.

Chan and Pedrico earned their second doubles point clincher in as many attempts vs. Baylor. They boosted their record as partners to 4-1.

TCU improved to 7-1 in doubles action this season. The Frogs have claimed 12 of their last 13 possible doubles points dating back to their NCAA Championship run in May. TCU is now 27-4 in doubles play on the indoor courts since 2023.
