GoFrogs: Frogs Lead Heading into Final Round
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Four Horned Frogs are inside the top 20 through two rounds as the TCU men's golf team is in first place at the Tiger Invitational.
The squad played 36 holes at The Club at Old Hawthorne Monday in Columbia, Mo. All five Frogs shot at or under par in every round they played including six sub-70 rounds.
Senior Stefano Mazzoli had just three bogeys on the day and is in second place at 11-under 133. He is two shots back of the leader, Jacob Eklund (-13) of Kansas State. Mazzoli's first round score of 7-under 65 tied a career best. It was the fourth time in Mazzoli's career that he has shot 7-under 65, which ranks fourth in program history for low round vs. par. The Italian made 8 of his 14 birdies on the back nine of his first round for a 6-under 30. Mazzoli followed his first round with a 4-under 68 in round two.
Just two strokes behind Mazzoli is senior David Ravetto, who is tied for third place at 9-under 135. Ravetto was over par on just three of 36 holes. He shot 6-under 66 in the first round and then shot a bogey-free round of 3-under 69 in the second.
Senior Hayden Springer is tied for sixth at 7-under 137. Like Ravetto, Springer had just three holes over par on the day and shot 6-under 66 in the first round before shooting 1-under 71 in the second round. Springer has shot at or under par in 14 of his last 15 rounds.
Senior Pierre Mazier is tied for 13th at 5-under 139. He shot 2-under 70 in the first round and 3-under 69 in the second. Senior Triston Fisher is also under par through two rounds at 1-under 143 and is tied for 35th.
As a team, TCU shot 21-under 267 in the first round, the second-best round in program history. At 32-under 544, the Frogs are leading Missouri (-27) by five strokes. Kansas State is just behind the Tigers at 24-under 552.
A shotgun start will get the final round underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
