GoFrogs: Frogs Advance to NCAA Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – Led by regional co-champion Stefano Mazzoli, the TCU men's golf team finished second at the NCAA Regional at University of Texas Golf Club and advanced to the NCAA Championship.

The Horned Frogs had their best round of the tournament Wednesday, shooting 9-under 275, which tied regional champion Texas for the lowest score of the day. TCU will play in its 20th NCAA Championship, May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. It's the seventh appearance in the last 11 seasons but its first since 2016, when they finished second at the regional in Albuquerque, N.M.

Mazzoli opened the round with a bogey. The very next hole he made eagle on the par 5 No. 11 hole and made par or better the rest of the way. The Italian shot 7-under 64 on the day and 9-under 204 for the tournament to join Julien Brun in 2014 as the only Horned Frog to win an NCAA Regional. Mazzoli's score of 64 was a career low score for 18 holes. He shared medalist honors with Texas' Steven Chervony and Cole Hammer.

Seniors Turner MacLean and David Ravetto each tied for 11th place at 1-under 211. MacLean shot 2-under 69, his best round of the tournament, with the help of three consecutive birdies early in the round. Ravetto had an eagle on the par 4 No. 14 hole to help him shoot 2-under 68 in the final round.

Big 12 Champion Hayden Springer recovered after yesterday's score of 80 to shoot 3-over 74 and finish tied for 42nd at 10-over 223.
