GoFrogs: Men's Basketball Opens Season Monday Hosting New Orleans

Ernest Udeh in only 22 minutes as the starting center last night with Miami had, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks, 14 points (5-5 and 4-6 from the line), 1 steal, 1 assist and one turnover. I am concerned this staff doesn’t know how to develop big men; I still don’t think they have a former big man on the coaching staff.

From Jamie Plunkett—
There were clear concerns about this TCU squad heading into the season, especially when it comes to frontcourt defense and rebounding. The Frogs lost center Ernest Udeh to the transfer portal (he had a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double for Miami tonight), and opted not to enter the center market to any real degree, as prices continued to rise for premium interior players.

Ernest Udeh feasting on lesser competition is not a surprise. Last year in the first game against Florida A&M he put 13 and 11 in 16 minutes. Udeh’s problem is when you actually play a team with a pulse.

We won the second half by 12. Lost the first half by 16. Not sure what I saw last night. Bad officiating but that was not the problem. We played the game without a center and it showed. Just outplayed, and you have to give the opponent some credit. Is Posey hurt?

Posey hasn’t played yet in the exhibition either so I would say yes. Robinson needs to be playing 30 minutes+. If the other’s continue to not produce, Posey needs all the minutes he can get too. We can debate the shooting last night (yes it was horrendous) but the on ball defending was just ridiculous.

Forget about Udeh. He is gone & he chased the $. Would he have led us to victory last night? Probably not. Any time we go 3-27 from 3, we will lose. Every time. And half of those were wide open looks. We will be lucky to win 4 league games this year unless someone emerges as a leader/alpha type player.

Posey warms up with the team. Probably the best athlete we have. Also when Diallo went down, they didn’t play the Sr Tr Salachoum. Wonder if they were planning to RS him. We had no center out there after that. Must say Edmonds has potential.

Gonna ask the hard question... Is this what we're gonna be going forward with Jamie over the next few years? Is he gonna be able to navigate this environment? We have a female basketball coach that clearly can.

I defend Sonny because he's just in his 4th year... But Jamie's been here a decade. And he's taken us to places that we've not been.... But, did we reach our ceiling and are gonna fall down the hill?

One of the most embarrassing losses I can think of. Losing to NWSU and UTA in football come to mind.
I get it, this will haunt us all season. Have to give UNO some credit though. They are not the team that won 4 last year. Played extremely aggressive attacking style and made it happen while we are still figuring it out plus no bigs. In person, UNO looked like a team you wouldn’t want to face again. Maybe a one hit wonder but impressive last night.

We will see.

What it looked to me was our guys were looking for someone to step up and take charge but no one did. Shots not falling.

I know we are not nearly as bad as we looked for three-fourths of that game but we looked pretty bad for three-fourths of that game.

I was fairly impressed with Edmonds and Toolson. They seem like blue collar type players, willing to do the dirty work. I like how Edmonds attacked the basket when in low, didn't seem to be timid at all.

Did Salachoum suit out?
There was a tall players in black Warmups. Didn't look like he was ready to play.

Then I don't know who the guy in black was he was little bit taller than Edmonds.
Vianney Salatchoum was there, suited up, sitting on the bench. In the postgame presser on YouTube Dixon said Diallo is getting an MRI, “V” (Salatchoum) was sick ‘yesterday’ (presumably Sunday), and Punch was forced to play the 5 for the first time ever - and rebounding was the biggest issue.

Diallo to Miss Remainder of Season

FORT WORTH – TCU sophomore center Malick Diallo will require season-ending surgery after he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.

The injury occurred early in the first half of TCU’s game with New Orleans on Monday.

He better get better by Thursday.

Call me Mr. Purple glasses, maybe even more so with the injury news, but I think last night is an aberration within the lower percentile of potential efforts you'll see this year from this team.

They are flat out NOT that bad from range, they may not end up being great, but what I saw at the scrimmage and moreso in the Tarleton exhibition is that they can hit open shots. They had open shots a bunch last night and bricked them all to a man.

To me it almost looked like the "lid-on-the-rim-on-opening-night" phenomenon psyched us out for a good portion of the game. That snowballing, combined with New Orleans seemingly not being a bad squad (Benson can ball), added up to what we saw.

I'd rather we play our worst game of the season in the first game not the last. I'll buy the dip/crash.

Punch played the 5 to start the year last year
