GoFrogs: Mazzoli, Frogs Win Tiger Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Senior Stefano Mazzoli earned medalist honors after shooting one of the best scores in program history on Tuesday and in doing so, helped the TCU men's golf team win the Tiger Invitational.

Mazzoli, who began the day two shots back of Kansas State's Jacob Eklund for first, shot 6-under 66 in Tuesday's final round at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Mazzoli created a lot of separation between himself and the field as he finished four shots behind Eklund, who was the runner-up.

After the first two rounds of 65 and 68, Mazzoli's final total of 17-under 199 was the second-best 54 hole score ever at TCU. He joined Paul Barjon (2013) and teammate David Ravetto as the only players in program history to shoot below 200 over 54 holes. Ravetto broke the school record earlier this season after shooting 19-under 197 to win the Lake Charles Invitational.

Mazzoli recorded six of his tournament-best 21 birdies on the back nine Tuesday, for a 6-under 30, a repeat score of the back nine in his first round. The tournament win was Mazzoli's third-career victory and first of the season.

As a team, TCU won its second tournament of the season. Its score of 40-under 824 was the second-best score vs. par in program history. The only one topping it was from earlier this season when the Frogs won the Lake Charles Invitational with a score of 47-under 817. TCU finished seven shots ahead of Big 12 foe Kansas State (-33) and 21 shots in front of third place Missouri (-19).

TCU's other top five finishers were Pierre Mazier and Ravetto. Ravetto shot 1-under 71 on the day and finished tied for third at 10-under 206. Mazier finished with the best 54-hole score of his career at 9-under 207 to finish tied for fifth place, which was a season best. He shot a 4-under 68 on Tuesday to finish under par in all three rounds for the first time this season.

Senior Hayden Springer, who started the day in sixth place, shot 3-under 75 and slipped to finish tied for 21st. Springer's final score of 4-under 212 was the fourth time this season he had finished under par.

The Frogs will be back in action April 26-28 at the Big 12 Championship, held at The Greenbrier in White Sulfur Springs, W.Va.
