FORT WORTH, Texas - No. 8 TCU used a five-run sixth inning to overcome an early deficit en route to a 15-5 conference victory over UNLV Friday night at Lupton Stadium.

Jason Coats and Jerome Pena drove in three runs each and Matt Purke earned his sixth win of the season. Purke (6-0) allowed five runs on six hits in seven innings of work. He fanned nine and walked three in the victory. Erik Miller closed out the game with two scoreless frames. He surrendered three hits and struck out two.

Along with Coats' three hits, Bryan Holaday also tallied three hits and scored twice. Jantzen Witte tallied two hits in the win and Taylor Featherston drove in two runs with his lone hit of the night.

UNLV took an early lead, scoring three times on three hits and an error in the second inning. Nolan Clark gave UNLV the 1-0 lead with a base hit and Clark Thomas doubled in another run. Richie Jiminez capped the inning scoring with an RBI ground out.

Aaron Schultz got the Frogs with a two-out walk in the third inning as the Frogs pulled back within one, 3-2. Brance Rivera followed with a base hit and Holaday lined a single into left to drive in the first run. Left fielder Brandon Bayardi bobbled the ball, allowing Rivera to score.

Neither team could muster any offense until the sixth inning. The Rebels regained their three run lead with two runs on three hits. Clark doubled home two runs with two outs in the inning to give the Rebels a 5-2 lead.

The Frogs erased the deficit and turned it into a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the frame as they sent nine men to the plate and score five times. Rivera walked and moved to second on a Holaday bunt single. Coats doubled down the left field line to drive in the first run of the inning.

Josh Elander walked to load the bases and Tanner Peters uncorked a wild pitch to pull the Frogs within one, 5-4. Pena came through with a sharp line drive up the middle to drive in two runs, giving TCU a 6-5 lead. Witte followed with a double and an errant throw by the center fielder allowed the fifth run of the inning to score.

Four more runs in the seventh inning for TCU broke the game open as they took an 11-5 lead. With two outs, six straight batters reached. The Rebels committed a costly error with two on, loading the bases. Pena worked a walk and Witte was hit by a pitch to drive in the first two runs of the inning. Featherston followed with a base hit up the middle to drive in two more runs.

Another four spot in the eighth put the game out of reach. Coats tripled in a pair of runs and scored on a Jimmie Pharr pinch-hit single. Kyle Von Tungeln drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly.

TCU improves to 28-8 on the season and 9-3 in league play. The Frogs and the Rebels will square off in game two of the series Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Kyle Winkler will face the Rebels Stephen Singer.
