Senior safety looking to build off breakout 2025 seasonIRVING, Texas – TCU safety Jamel Johnson has been named to the 2026 Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Johnson is one of four defensive backs on the All-Big 12 squad and is the lone Horned Frog to pick up the selection.
As a junior in 2025 the Arlington native was a key piece of the TCU defense, playing and starting every game at safety. He totaled 96 tackles and had five interceptions, which tied for the most in the Big 12 last season.
His strong season last year built off his successful sophomore campaign, where he had the third most tackles on the Frog squad with 73.
Johnson is set to join the rest of the TCU contingent at Big 12 Football Media Days in Frisco on Wednesday, with coverage beginning at 10 a.m. on ESPNU.
