GoFrogs: Holmes Named Big 12 Freshman of the Week
IRVING – TCU's Aja Holmes has been named this week's Big 12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Holmes averaged 8.5 points on the week, which included shooting 50 percent from three-point range. The Cibilo, Texas, native tied a career-high with four three-pointers made and 14 points in TCU's come-from-behind win over Texas Tech this past Saturday in Fort Worth. She finished the week draining 5-of-10 shots from downtown.
This is Holmes' first Big 12 weekly honor of her career and the second weekly honor for a TCU player this season. Lauren Heard was named the Big 12 Player of the Week back on Dec. 14. Holmes becomes the fourth different TCU player to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Week, and the first since Mikayla Christian earned the accolade back on Dec. 27, 2016.
TCU is back in action Tuesday night, taking on the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ferrell Center.
