GoFrogs: Gibson and Parra Garner All-Region Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. –
After a record-breaking 2024 season, TCU volleyball's Jalyn Gibson earned All-Region honors and Melanie Parra was named Region Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

For the second straight year, the duo of Parra and Gibson was selected to the All-Southwest Region Team following the best seasons of their career. The duo was key in TCU's success this year, helping the Frogs earn their first-ever national ranking in the AVCA coaches poll, first 20-win season since 2011 and a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Parra, the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Year, added AVCA Southwest Region Player of the Year laurels to her name after rewriting the record books in her second season at TCU. She is the first Horned Frog to be named Region Player of the Year in school history.

In her senior campaign, she eclipsed the 500 kill mark, becoming just the 24th player in Big 12 history in the rally scoring era to accomplish the feat. With 573 total kills and 669.5 points on the season, Parra led all Power 4 players and broke the TCU single-season program record in the rally scoring era in both offensive categories.

In 2024, the Sinaloa, Mexico, native garnered six Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week awards, tied for the most in a single season in conference history, and was the first-ever back-to-back AVCA/GameChanger Player of the Week in women's D1 volleyball history. Averaging 5.12 kills per set and 5.98 points per set, Parra ranked among the nation's best attackers.

Gibson wrapped up her junior season with All-Southwest Region honors for the second consecutive year. The San Antonio native posted a career-best 380 kills on a .258 clip in 2024. Gibson recorded double-digit kills in 22 contests, including a career-high 26 against Iowa State (Nov. 1). She also racked up 451.0 points for the Frogs, ranking seventh in the Big 12 to secure a first team all-conference nod. A versatile six-rotation outside, Gibson led the team with 330 digs and finished the regular season with 12 double-doubles.

Gibson and Parra are both eligible for the AVCA All-American Team, which will be announced Dec. 18 ahead of the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
