GoFrogs: From The Desk of #ADJD

Dear Horned Frogs Fans:

We hope everyone has enjoyed a terrific summer! As our new academic and athletics year commences, we are very excited about our 22 sports and the opportunities that await them!

We will look to continue the momentum from this past season that saw us win an NCAA Air Rifle National Championship and Men's Tennis ITA National Indoor Team Championship. We also had track and field's Du Mapaya capture his second NCAA Outdoor Championship in the triple jump. It capped a phenomenal career for Du as he will leave TCU as a five-time Big 12 Conference Champion, nine-time All-American and with a TCU degree in hand. We won conference championships in women's soccer, baseball, beach volleyball and men's tennis while 14 sports were represented in postseason play by either teams or individuals.

The success in competition was mirrored in the classroom. We totaled one of our largest graduating classes ever with 74 student-athletes donning the cap and gown during the Spring 2022 semester. This group also recorded one of the top aggregate grade-point averages since we began tracking.

You can feel a tremendous source of pride in what we were able to accomplish this past year. It is a direct result of your investment in our student-athletes. With our football and women's soccer programs having started their respective fall camps and volleyball next week, we now turn the page to the fall semester.

WELCOME HOME
Last week, we were thrilled to announce Khadevis Robinson as our new director of track and field!

A Fort Worth native, Khadevis was an NCAA champion at TCU and represented us twice at the Olympic Games, in 2004 in Athens and 2012 in London. He had served the last five seasons as Ohio State's assistant track and field coach and head cross country coach. Khadevis is a phenomenal fit on so many fronts for our track and field program and campus. From his time as an active athlete to now as a coach, he is well respected and known in the sport. He has a trust factor with all the athletes he has trained. Khadevis is also a relationship builder who will develop a positive culture in our program, make an immediate impact in recruiting and engage our alumni and local community.

Welcome home, Khadevis!

NEW BIG 12 COMMISSIONER
Please join me in welcoming Brett Yormark as our new commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. Brett is an innovative leader. With his background in sports, entertainment and business, he is a perfect fit for our new era of collegiate athletics. We are looking forward to hosting Commissioner Yormark on Monday when he makes his first visit to TCU.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to retiring commissioner Bob Bowlsby. Bob has been an unbelievable friend to me, professionally and personally. Our conference will miss his leadership, but we know he will always be there as a resource for us.
Looking forward, there is a lot to be excited about in our conference. In May, for the first time in three years, we gathered in person as a collective group for our annual spring meetings. It also came with a new wrinkle. In addition to the current 10 members, we were joined by incoming institutions BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. Each school was represented by its director of athletics, senior woman administrator and head coaches in football and men's and women's basketball. We had a very productive session in discussing everything on the table in the current landscape of collegiate athletics. Future scheduling was also a key topic as our 10-team conference becomes a 14-school league before settling into 12 members.

A PROUD 50 YEARS
It is an honor to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Title IX. Through the continual addition of women's sports, we are very proud of being able to increase opportunities for women at TCU. In just the last 15 years, we have added three women's sports with the latest being triathlon which begins competition in Fall 2023. We have also seen our women's programs thrive. Rifle has won multiple national championships with golf and equestrian also capturing national titles. Soccer is back-to-back Big 12 Conference champions with beach volleyball, one of our newer sports, being ranked No. 2 in the nation this season. Click HERE for a complete review of women's sports at TCU over the last 50 years.

NCAA WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to rifle's Kristen Hemphill and women's golfer Sabrina Iqbal on representing us as our 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year nominees!

Kristen closed her career as a 12-time All-American. She was a key part of our air rifle national championships the last two seasons and our 2019 overall NCAA title. En route to earning All-Big 12 recognition, Sabrina had a career-low 71.8 stroke average to break her own school record from two years ago. She also set a TCU mark with an 8-under 63 to win The Bruzzy this spring.

Kristen and Sabrina also excelled in the classroom and meet the requirements of the award when it comes to academics, athletics, service and leadership.

CONTINUING EDUCATION
Congratulations also go to equestrian's Jacey Albaugh and baseball's Augie Mihlbauer on being named recipients of the Big 12 Conference's Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship. Jacey and Augie enjoyed great careers at TCU, and I am excited to see what the future holds for them.

DR. JAMES CASH STATUE DEDICATION
Please mark your calendar for Friday, November 11, when we dedicate a statue for Dr. James Cash in front of Schollmaier Arena.

Dr. Cash was TCU's first black student-athlete and the first black basketball player in the Southwest Conference. Following his time at TCU, he earned master's and doctorate degrees at Purdue. He then returned to the classroom in 1976 as a faculty member at the Harvard Business School, teaching in each of the major HBS programs. He eventually became Harvard's first tenured black faculty member. In 2020, Dr. Cash was the first black person at Harvard to have a building, Cash House, named for him. He currently holds the position of James E. Robinson Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus at the Harvard Business School.

Dr. Cash is a trailblazer for us. Upon his arrival as our head men's basketball coach, Jamie Dixon made a concerted effort to have Dr. Cash involved as much as he could with our program. We very much look forward to seeing Dr. Cash recognized in this most appropriate manner with a campus monument.

TICKET OFFICE NOTES
Due to freeing up thousands of tickets following the identification of broker accounts, this year's football ticket upgrade period had the largest available selection of inventory since Amon G. Carter Stadium was rebuilt in 2012. We thank and appreciate everyone who went through our season ticket and donor parking upgrades.

As you likely know, especially if you are on social media, we have a special Keep It Purple mini-plan available with the November 5 Texas Tech game and two other games of your choice. The only way to guarantee a ticket for the Texas Tech game is through a season ticket or mini-plan purchase available HERE. Single-game tickets are also currently on sale.

We have nine home matches at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium for our back-to-back Big 12 Conference Champion women's soccer program. Season tickets are available HERE. #PROFROGS
Cam Norrie! What a run for our Horned Frog in reaching the Wimbledon semifinals! We could not be prouder of him. Cam provided incredible exposure for TCU on an international stage. Cam had a decorated career in his three seasons (2014-17) at TCU and still trains on campus. He earned All-America honors and became the first player in our program's history to finish the season with a No. 1 ranking. We also appreciate Facundo Lugones, his former TCU teammate and current coach, for the exposure he provided us by wearing his trademark TCU shirt during Cam's matches.

Cam was not the only Horned Frog at Wimbledon. We were also represented by Alastair Gray who won his opening match in his Grand Slam singles debut.

The National Women's Soccer League season is winding down, and we have had three Horned Frogs active in Yazmeen Ryan (Portland Thorns), Ryan Williams (North Carolina Courage) and Jenna Winebrenner (Kansas City Current). Check out their schedules and try to catch them in action. I know they would enjoy seeing some TCU purple in the stands at their games.

We had five players selected in the recent Major League Baseball Draft. Congratulations to Riley Cornelio (seventh round, Washington Nationals), Caleb Bolden (seventh round, Boston Red Sox), Marcelo Perez (11th round, Seattle Mariners), Austin Krob (12th round, San Diego Padres) and Tommy Sacco (14th round, Houston Astros).

When it comes to Horned Frogs and the big leagues, it has been an impressive summer for Matt Carpenter and Nick Lodolo. Matt has 15 home runs for the New York Yankees and has become a fan favorite in the Bronx, while Nick is making an impact for the Cincinnati Reds. In his last two starts, he has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings with 16 strikeouts.

With NFL training camps underway, we have 24 players currently on active rosters. We send our best to everyone.

NEW RECORD
I am honored to serve an incredible coaching staff, and you can be proud of how they represent us. Their talents are also well known and respected by others as we set a new TCU season record with five recipients of Conference Coach of the Year awards in 2021-22. Congratulations to Eric Bell (women's soccer), Hector Gutierrez (beach volleyball), David Roditi (men's tennis), Haley Schoolfield (equestrian) and Kirk Saarloos (baseball) on being recognized by their peers this past year! In addition to this quintet, we have seven other head coaches who have been a conference coach of the year: Jamie Dixon (men's basketball), Sonny Dykes (football), Karen Monez (rifle), Bill Montigel (men's golf), Raegan Pebley (women's basketball), Angie Ravaioli-Larkin (women's golf) and James Winchester (swimming and diving).

TAKING SILVER IN SCOTLAND
Our student-athletes, current and past, enjoyed some great successes this summer, and Filippo Celli is right at the top.

A rising junior, Filippo won the Silver Medal as the top amateur at the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews in Scotland, the world's oldest golf course. His 5-under 283 was six strokes better than the next amateur and gave him a tie for 47th overall.

Filippo earned his spot at The Open by winning the European Amateur Championship. Tiger Woods (1996), Rory McIlroy (2007) and Matt Fitzpatrick (2013) can now say they are in good company as fellow Silver Medal winners with Filippo.

MEN'S BASKETBALL BUZZ
The momentum in our men's basketball program continues! Coming off our NCAA Tournament season, it has been great to see the national media recognize how we are trending under Head Coach Jamie Dixon. In various preseason rankings, we are in the top 15 by CBS Sports (No. 10), ESPN (No. 13) and NCAA March Madness (No. 15).

2022 HALL OF FAME CLASS ANNOUNCED
When it comes to star power of TCU Athletics Hall of Fame classes, it is hard to top the eight Horned Frogs who comprise the 2022 edition. Jake Arrieta (baseball), Andy Dalton (football), Jason Flint (swimming and diving), Bryan Holaday (baseball), Jake Kirkpatrick (football) and Jackson Langat (track and field) are this year's selections, along with Lee Williams (track and field) as the Vintage Category honoree and Jack Hesselbrock as the Special Contributor recipient. Tickets for any of the Hall of Fame weekend activities are available HERE.

This group defines what it means to be a Horned Frog. Congratulations to everyone and especially Jack! I was honored to work alongside him for several years before his retirement. Jack was such a great resource to me and so many others while playing a major role in our successes. We look forward to celebrating this great class at our September 29 induction ceremony in the Legends Club & Suites.

TCU ATHLETICS DAY OF SERVICE
It makes me proud each year to see the selflessness displayed by our coaches and staff with our annual TCU Athletics Day of Service. This year's event took place on May 11 with our department assisting in various ways with SafeHaven, Berry Good Buys, HOPE Farm, Starpoint School at TCU, Union Gospel Mission, the Tarrant Area Food Bank, Community Food Bank/Pantry and United Way. Thank you, team, for your efforts!

BEST IN THE NATION
Congratulations to our marketing and video departments for their great collaboration on this past season's women's basketball intro video that won gold at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) Convention. Click HERE for a behind-the-scenes look at how the video came together. A special shout out to Clayton Regian, our director of athletics video production, for his lead and outstanding work on the piece. When our video department was formed a decade ago, Clayton was a one-person operation. He has produced so many of the terrific videos you have enjoyed over the years. We are certainly proud to have Clayton as a Horned Frog!

PILLAR OF PURPLE
Congratulations also go to Dominic DiNunzio (football), Madilyn Cole (volleyball) and Megan Morris (women's swimming and diving) on being this year's Pillar of Purple Award recipients! The award is presented by TCU's Intercollegiate Athletics Committee which is comprised of faculty, staff and students representing the university community. It honors at least one TCU student-athlete from men's sports and one from women's sports for their academic achievements, athletic excellence, community service and leadership. To be eligible, nominees must have junior or senior academic standing and have earned a varsity letter in their respective sport.

DID YOU KNOW?
Our women's triathlon roster is now official. Head Coach Jenny Garrison has signed 10 student-athletes who are set to arrive this fall and next spring to begin training in preparation of our women's triathlon debut season in Fall 2023. Click HERE to meet our newest TCU student-athletes.

I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU
Whether it's through email (AthleticsDirector@tcu.edu), Twitter (@JDonati_TCU) or Instagram (JDonati_TCU), please feel free to always reach out if we can be of assistance. Thank you for your continued support of TCU Athletics!

Go Frogs!
