GoFrogs: Frogs Sweep Catamounts for Fifth Straight Win

FORT WORTH – TCU won its fifth consecutive match with a 3-0 sweep of Western Carolina on the final day of the Fight in the Fort on Saturday night at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.

Melanie Parra led TCU with 15 kills, hitting .314 while also adding 11 digs for her third double-double in the past four matches. Jalyn Gibson tallied 10 kills of her own along with five digs and an ace.

Riley Buckley, Jalyn Gibson, Audrey Nalls and Melanie Parra were named to the Fight in the Fort All-Tournament team. Buckley garnered Top Setter honors while Parra was named All-Tournament MVP.

Highlighted by her record-breaking 34 kills against Florida State, Parra recorded 76 kills across three matches with a .394 hitting percentage. She averaged 6.91 kills per set and led the Horned Frogs in kills in all three wins on the weekend.

The Rundown
Tied at 5-all, back-to-back kills from Melanie Parra gave TCU a 7-5 lead over the Catamounts in the first set. A block by Audrey Nalls and two more kills from Parra gave TCU a 17-9 edge.

TCU's middles shined at the end of the first set to help clinch the win. Sarah Sylvester had her first kill of the night at 21-14, and Brianna Green delivered the final blow to win the set for TCU, 25-17.

The Frogs held WCU to a .079 hitting percentage in the first set.

Trailing 8-6 in the second set, TCU went on a 4-0 scoring run, highlighted by kills from Green and Nalls. Back-to-back kills from Parra and a block from Riley Buckley and Sylvester put the Frogs up 16-12.

Leading 23-21, Cecily Bramschreiber delivered a beauty of an ace and Parra landed the final kill to win the set and give TCU a 2-0 match lead.

The Catamounts jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the third set, but TCU went on a 5-0 scoring run which was highlighted by three consecutive kills by Jalyn Gibson. The Frogs never looked back and continued to capitalize on Catamount errors throughout the third set.

TCU ended the set on a 5-1 run and kills from Nalls and Green finished the game. Parra (15) and Gibson (10) each tallied double-digit kills in the sweep of the Catamounts.

Melanie Parra led the team with 15 kills. It's the ninth time this season she has led the team in kills and the ninth time she has tallied double-digit kills in a match.
• Parra earned All-Tournament MVP honors after tallying a tournament-best 6.91 kills per set, hitting .394 with 76 total kills.
• Parra tallied 6+ kills in nine of the 11 sets played at the Fight in the Fort.
• Parra led TCU in aces against WCU (3) and throughout the tournament (6).
Jalyn Gibson finished second on the team with 10 kills against WCU.
• Gibson, who earned All-Tournament Team honors, had 31 kills on the weekend and hit .265 while also being second on the team with 10 blocks.
Audrey Nalls was one kill shy of a double-double (9 kills, 11 digs) against the Catamounts.
• Through three matches, Nalls had 24 kills, finished second on the team with 34 digs and also had eight blocks.
Riley Buckley led TCU with 28 assists. The All-Tournament setter averaged 10.64 assists per set through all three matches.
Cecily Bramschreiber posted a team-leading 12 digs.
Lily Nicholson had a season-best six assists.
Jaylen Clark and Megan Walsh made their TCU debuts in the third set.
