GoFrogs: Frogs Pick Up Big Road Win at Kansas State, 61-47

MANHATTAN, Kansas – A career-high 20 points by Lauren Heard, including 11 in the fourth quarter alone, helped lift the TCU women's basketball team to a huge road win at Kansas State, 61-47, on Wednesday evening at Bramlage Coliseum.

Heard also added a career-best six steals as the Horned Frogs (15-5, 5-4 Big 12) forced Kansas State (13-8, 4-5) to commit 21 turnovers in the contest.

Amy Okonkwo and Kianna Ray added 16 points each as well, with Ray going 6-of-7 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond-the-arc.

THE RUNDOWN
TCU came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, opening the game on a 7-0 run and holding Kansas State off the scoreboard for the first 5:13 of the contest.

Ray scored 11 points in that opening frame, including a trio of 3-pointers, as the Frogs raced out to an 18-9 lead.

TCU continued to push the pace on both ends of the floor and used another 7-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to go up 27-13.

Kansas State answered back with seven consecutive points of its own, but the Frogs were undeterred and responded by scoring 10 straight to take a 37-20 advantage when Ray hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game immediately after a big block by Jordan Moore.

The Wildcats didn't back down though and were able to cut their deficit from 17 to just six at 44-38 with 6:36 remaining in the fourth quarter.

That would be as close as they would get though as Heard took over in the next few minutes, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and a layup in a span of 1:36 to push the lead back to double-digits at 52-40.

From there the Frogs salted away the win at the free-throw line, hitting five attempts from the charity stripe in the final 2:23 to account for the final score of 61-47.

STAT OF THE GAME
47– The 47 points allowed were the fewest TCU has yielded in a Big 12 victory since it won on the road at Kansas, 70-44, on Feb. 17, 2016. It was also the second-fewest that Kansas State has scored in a game this season.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
TCU Head Coach Raegan Pebley
"We prepared for the Kansas State team that beat Texas. They are a very good team and a team that has a lot of offensive weapons and a lot of discipline in what they do. I felt like our team persevered through a lot, in that first half in particular with some foul trouble. I am proud of our whole squad. People stepped up in a lot of different ways. To get a road win in the Big 12 means a lot, no matter how you can get it done. We will cherish this win."

UP NEXT
TCU will return home to host Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3. The game will be televised on FSN with Ron Thulin and Brenda VanLengen on the call.
