DENVER – Competing for its first Sweet 16, the No. 6 seed TCU men's basketball team fell to No. 3 seed Gonzaga, 84-81, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Ball Arena Sunday in Denver.

Mike Miles Jr. led the Horned Frogs (22-13) with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Damion Baugh had 15 points, a team-high eight rebounds and four assists. Emanuel Miller also scored in double figures with 14 points.

TCU led for nearly the entire first half and by as many as 10 points, 25-15, with 7:30 remaining in the first. The Frogs led 38-33 at halftime.

Gonzaga (30-5) came out in the second half and took its first lead since four minutes into the game to go up 46-45 with 15:21 to play. TCU regained the lead on a three by Miles on the next possession. Another three by Miles gave the Frogs a 55-50 lead with 12:14 to play.

The Bulldogs answered with 13 unanswered points to take a 63-55 lead with 8:39 remaining.

After trailing by nine, a 6-0 TCU run brought the Frogs to within three points, 73-70, with 2:11 to play. Gonzaga pushed the lead to seven points, 77-70, before a three by JaKobe Coles cut it to four points, 77-73, with 49 seconds left.

The Zags continued to answer every time the Frogs crept closer making four of its last five field goal attempts. Gonzaga's Drew Timme finished with 28 points and eight rebounds.

The Frogs made nine 3-pointers, a program record for threes in an NCAA Tournament game.

Team Notes
  • TCU moved to 7-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Frogs were competing in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time since 1953.
  • TCU fell to 6-2 this season at neutral sites.
  • TCU fell to 6-8 against teams ranked in the Top 25. Gonzaga was No. 9 in the AP Poll.
  • TCU had nine turnovers it was the 11th time this season the Frogs recorded 10 or less turnovers
  • TCU was 9-of-25 from three. The nine makes were the most by a TCU team in the NCAA Tournament.
  • TCU led 38-33 at halftime and fell to 18-4 this season when leading at the break.
Individual Notes
  • Mike Miles Jr. scored a team-high 24 points. It was his 25th game in double figures this season out of 27 played and his 10th 20-point game this season. It's the most 20-point games in a season since Desmond Bane had 11 in the 2018-19 season.
  • Damion Baugh tied for the team-lead with four assists. It was his 18th-straight game leading TCU in assists and the 26th time this season leading the team in that category out of 29 games played.
  • Baugh recorded a team-high eight rebounds. It was his sixth time this season leading the team in that category.
  • Baugh was 3-of-6 from 3-point range, tying a career-high for made threes. He's now done that seven times and also made three against Arizona State on Friday.
  • Emanuel Miller had 14 points. It was his 21st time this season with 10 or more points.
  • Souleymane Doumbia scored two points his first points since Feb. 4 against Oklahoma State.
