GoFrogs: Errors Prove Costly in Loss
HOUSTON – Two errors for TCU turned into five unearned runs for Rice as the Owls handed the Horned Frogs a 7-3 loss Tuesday night at Reckling Ballpark. A.J. Baltadrove in two of TCU’s three runs.
The Rundown
A two-out rally by the Owls produced five runs in the second inning. Justin Collins put Rice on the board with a two-out solo home run. A fielding error opened the floodgates following the home run. A double from Bradley Gneiting and a two-run triple from Ryan Chandler did the bulk of the damage.
Luken Baker drew a two-out walk in the first and from there Rice starter Roel Garcia retired 16 straight batters to get the game into the seventh inning. Along the way the Owls tacked on two more runs to take a 7-0 lead.
The Frogs bats came to life in the seventh as Zach Humphreys drew a lead-off walk. Baker picked up the Frogs first hit of the game to put runners on the corners with one out. A.J. Balta ripped a two-run triple to right center to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
TCU pushed across another run in the eighth inning. Coby Boulware walked with one out and moved to third on an errant pick-off throw. Humphreys reached on an infield single to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
Russell Smith (1-2) took the loss after getting touched for five runs (one earned) on three hits. Also seeing time on the mound were Jake Eissler, Haylen Green, Caleb Sloan and Durbin Feltman.

• TCU was out-hit for just the fifth time this season.
• TCU registered multiple runs in one inning.
• Zach Humphreys has reached base safely in nine straight.
