Eight Horned Frogs Earn All-Conference Accolades​

FORT WORTH – Brayden Taylor headlines a group of eight TCU baseball players to earn all-conference recognition as voted upon by league coaches. Anthony Silva and Garrett Wright were named second-team All-Big 12.

Joining the trio and earning honorable mention accolades were Karson Bowen, Cole Fontenelle, Kole Klecker and Louis Rodriguez. Ben Abeldt joined Bowen, Klecker and Silva on the Big 12 All-Freshman squad. TCU's four representatives on the All-Freshman team were the most in the league.

Taylor, now a three-time all-conference performer, was named to the first team for the first time in his career. He sits second in the Big 12 this season with 18 home runs and leads the squad with 48 RBIs. On the season, he is hitting .290 with 10 doubles and 11 stolen bases. In league play, Taylor hit .311 with nine home runs and 21 RBIs.

Silva has paced the squad in batting average for most of the season. In his debut campaign, he is hitting .351 with nine doubles, seven home runs and 40 RBIs in addition to his 16 stolen bases. He also led the squad with a .375 batting average in league play with five doubles, four home runs and 16 RBIs.

Ten of Wright's 16 appearances out of the bullpen this season have come in Big 12 play. On the year, he is 2-2 with four saves and a 3.52 ERA. In 23 innings of work, the junior has fanned 28. He is limiting opponents to a .167 batting average. In conference play, he posted a 2-1 record with three saves and a 3.07 ERA. He has racked up 18 strikeouts in just 14 2/3 innings of work.

Bowen has started 42 games as part of 43 appearances on the season. He sits second on the squad with a .333 average. He has tallied 10 doubles and six home runs while driving in 41 runs. Behind the plate, he has thrown out 11 base runners. In conference play, Bowen hit .280 with five doubles, four home runs and drove in a team-high 23 runs.

Fontenelle sits third on the team with a .321 average. He is second on the squad with 11 home runs and co-leads the team with 17 doubles. His 42 RBIs are second on the team, while his 18 stolen bases sit third. In Big 12 action, the junior hit .367 with 11 doubles, one triple and six home runs. He collected 12 stolen bases and drove in 22 runs.

Klecker leads the Big 12 with nine victories. He has started 12 games as part of 14 appearances in his freshman campaign. His 72 2/3 innings lead the squad as do his 53 strikeouts on the year. He is limiting opponents to a .205 average. In league play, Klecker is 5-3 with a 4.96 ERA over eight starts. He fanned 32 in 45 1/3 innings pitched.

Rodriguez's last five appearances have come as a starter. He has 17 appearances on the year and boasts a 2-1 record with 49 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings pitched. In conference play, the freshman started four games as part of eight appearances. He went 1-0 with a 5.33 ERA, striking out 24 in 27 innings of work.

Abeldt leads the team with 25 appearances, 24 of which have come out of the bullpen. In 36 innings of work, the freshman has fanned 49. In league play, Abledt has made 13 appearances and owns a 3.18 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 17 innings of work.

TCU (33-22, 13-11) opens play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Wednesday morning against Kansas State. TCU enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed. First pitch against the Wildcats is set for 9 a.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
