GoFrogs: Dykes Announces Coaching Staff Updates

FORT WORTH -- TCU Head Football Coach Sonny Dykes has announced that Julius Brown will serve as cornerbacks coach and Mitch Kirsch is tight ends coach.

Brown will be in his second year at TCU after joining the Horned Frogs as a senior defensive analyst and being promoted to assistant coach - nickels. Kirsch has been with Dykes since his arrival at TCU. After initially serving as a senior offensive analyst, he was promoted this fall to assistant coach with the tight ends.

Brown was cornerbacks coach for two seasons at Washington, including its 2023 team that played in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He previously spent two seasons (2021-22) at Fresno State as recruiting coordinator and coaching their huskies, a hybrid linebacker/safety position. During his time with the Bulldogs, Brown was named by 247Sports as the No. 2 recruiter in the Mountain West Conference.

Brown also coached cornerbacks at Texas Tech (2019) and defensive backs at Utah State (2016-18). He worked with TCU Defensive Coordinator Andy Avalos at Boise State for two seasons (2014-15) with other stops at Arkansas State (2013) and Troy (2012) as well as an initial tenure with the Broncos (2006-11). He is a 2006 graduate of Boise State, where he was a three-year starter at cornerback and led the WAC in passes defended as a senior.

Before TCU, Kirsch was an offensive graduate assistant under Dykes at SMU.

Kirsch was a consensus FCS All-America offensive lineman at James Madison, helping lead the Dukes to a 2016 National Championship. He was the Virginia Collegiate Athlete of the Year in 2017, before signing a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears.

A 2016 JMU graduate, Kirsch began his coaching career as an offensive assistant at St. John's High School in Washington, D.C.
