GoFrogs: Dixon Awarded Contract Extension
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jeremiah Donati has announced a contract extension for head men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon.
Dixon’s contract was extended two years, securing the coach through the 2023-24 season.
“We are very excited to announce the contract extension with Jamie Dixon,” Donati said. “We are committed to competing at the highest level, and Coach Dixon is the right person to lead us. Coming off our NCAA Tournament appearance, we have a lot of momentum and excitement with men’s basketball not just on campus, but in Fort Worth as well. I am excited to watch us take the next step as a program.”
Dixon completed his second season at TCU in March after leading the Horned Frogs to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years. In his first season, the 1987 TCU graduate led his alma mater to its first-ever postseason championship when TCU won the National Invitation Tournament in 2017. It was the first time since 1999 that TCU has had consecutive 20-win seasons and consecutive postseason appearances.
“My family and coaching staff are grateful for the continued commitment of Chancellor Victor Boschini and Director of Athletics Jeremiah Donati,” Dixon said. “We are proud of what this program has accomplished in two short years and look forward to even greater success in the future.”
Dixon is 45-27 at TCU and has recorded wins over No. 1-ranked Kansas and No. 7 West Virginia. The Frogs’ 9-9 Big 12 Conference record this past season was the best in their six seasons in the league and their most wins in any conference in 17 seasons. Dixon led the Frogs to a school-record 17 consecutive wins and an AP top 25 ranking for eight-straight weeks including a TCU-best ranking of 10th.
Since Dixon’s arrival, TCU’s home attendance has never been better. Last season’s average attendance of 6,561 was the most in school history, up from the 6,127 fans that visited Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena the previous year which was the third-most in a season. An announced crowd of 7,368 witnessed TCU’s win over No. 7 West Virginia on Jan. 22, the most in renovated Schollmaier Arena history and the third-most to ever see a TCU home game.
Dixon ranks 12th among active NCAA DI coaches with a career winning percentage of .715 over 15 seasons. His winning percentage of .625 at TCU is the second-best in school history, behind Francis Schmidt’s .750 (1929-34). He joined Matty Bell (1923-29) as the only coaches at TCU to record winning seasons in each of their first two years.
