Horned Frogs return seven starters from a defense which has led the nation each of the last two seasons

DALLAS -- TCU linebacker Tank Carder and safety Tejay Johnson are included on the watch list for the 2010 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, honoring the nation's top defensive player. Carder and Johnson, both preseason All-Americans, are two of seven returning starters on a TCU defense which has led the nation each of the last two seasons.

Carder was an All-Mountain West Conference selection in his first year as a starter. His 89 tackles placed second on TCU behind only Daryl Washington (109) and were 19 more than the next-closest Horned Frog (Alex Ibiloye, 70).

Carder was third on TCU with 10 tackles for loss. He topped the Horned Frogs while tying for second in the MWC with 10 pass breakups.

A junior from Sweeny, Texas, Carder also appears on the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List.

Johnson, who will be in his third year as a starter, was an All-Mountain West Conference selection last season. He placed fourth on TCU with 59 tackles, including a career best and TCU season-high 14 stops in a 38-7 win at BYU. It was the most tackles in a game by a Horned Frog since Marvin White totaled 14 against Baylor in 2006.

A native of Garland, Texas, Johnson tied for TCU's team lead with three interceptions.

TCU is one of just 13 schools to have more than one player on the 2010 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List.

TCU two-time consensus All-America defensive end Jerry Hughes was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy each of the last two seasons.
