GoFrogs: Big First Half Leads No. 9 TCU To Win At Iowa State

AMES, Iowa –
TCU used a three-goal first half and stout defense to push its unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-0 win at Iowa State Sunday afternoon. Camryn Lancaster, Messiah Bright and Brandi Peterson each tallied a goal in the win. Lauren Kellett and Kinsey Ehmann combined to register TCU's fourth straight shutout victory.

The Rundown
TCU had its foot on the gas from the opening touch. Chances came early and often and the Horned Frogs were rewarded with a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Camryn Lancaster outraced her defender on a through ball pass from Gracie Brian and knocked it in for the opening goal of the frame.

In the 18th minute, TCU extended its lead to 2-0. After being denied on two shots earlier in the half, Messiah Bright finally scored as she headed in a Grace Collins' corner kick for her eighth goal of the season.

Brandi Peterson put the exclamation point on the half with her second goal of the season in the final minute of the frame. She fired a rising shot from about 30 yards out that tucked in just under the crossbar for a 3-0 lead.

TCU did everything but score in the second half. The Frogs fired off 10 shots in the frame and had lots of quality looks but couldn't score. The Cylcone keepers combined to make five saves in the frame to keep the Frogs off the board.

On the defensive side of the game, TCU allowed just five shots and only one on goal. Four of the five Cyclone shots came in the first half.

Stat of the Game

"It's a tough weekend from playing at West Virginia and then traveling to Ames. I'm really proud of the group for the professional way in which they approached this game and this weekend. We were dialed in mentally and really focused. They made a difficult trip look easy.

"To get two shutouts over the weekend, Lauren Kellett needs to be commended for the job she's done in goal. Also credit to Kinsey Ehmann in today's game. Messiah Bright has been fantastic and she gets a milestone goal today. Just a fantastic team effort in both games. I'm proud of our group."
