GoFrogs: TCU Rallies To Defeat Kansas, 8-6

FORT WORTH –
TCU scored six times in its final three at-bats to rally for an 8-6 victory over Kansas Friday night at Lupton Stadium, pushing its winning streak to three. Tre Richardson drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth and finished the night with two hits and two RBIs. Cole Fontenelle homered as part of a three hit night.

The Rundown
The Horned Frogs found themselves facing a 5-2 deficit after a three run home run in the fifth gave Kansas the lead. Cole Fontenelle led off the sixth with a double and the comeback was on.

With two on, Elijah Nunez made it a one-run ballgame with his second double of the game. Two batters later, he scored on an errant throw to tie the game. Tre Richardson put the Frogs in front, 6-5, with a base hit to cap a four run frame.

After Kansas had tied the game in the eighth, TCU wasted little time moving back in front. Luke Boyers tripled to lead off the bottom of the inning and Richardson provided another go-ahead hit. He later scored on a Fontenelle fielder's choice for an 8-6 lead.

Louis Rodriguez came on and retired the side on 10 pitches in the ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

Ryan Vanderhei started for the Frogs and allowed five runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out five. Sam Stoutenborough retired five of the six batters he faced, while Ben Abeldt was touched for a run on a hit. He walked one and struck out two. Garrett Wright (1-1) picked up the win in relief, recording the final out of the eighth.

The three run deficit is the largest overcome by the Horned Frogs to pick up a victory this season. It's just the fourth come-from-behind win for the squad.
