SAN MARCOS, Texas – TCU ran its winning streak to six games with a 5-3 victory at Texas State Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark. Jack Bell hit his third home run of the season. The Horned Frogs pitchers tallied 14 strikeouts in the win.
The Rundown
The game was a see-saw battle through the first three innings before TCU was able to find insurances run late. The Frogs opened the scoring in the first as Isaac Cadena raced home on a wild pitch with two outs. Texas State tied the game on a two out, solo home run.
TCU regained the lead in the third on an Anthony Silva two-out base hit, but the Bobcats had an answer in the bottom of the frame as they beat out a two out, infield single with a runner on third to tie the game at two.
Sawyer Strosnider and Colton Griffin teamed up with back-to-back doubles in the fourth to give TCU a lead it would never relinquish. A costly error by Texas State in the fifth gave TCU the all-important insurance. With two on, Jack Bell hit a high fly ball to left that was dropped, allowing Silva to score for a 4-2 lead.
Texas State pulled back within one, 4-3, on a lead-off home run in the sixth, but Jack Bell answered the home run with one of his own in the eighth to account for the final score.
Louis Rodriguez started for the Frogs and allowed a run on two hits in two innings. Kaden Smith struck out the only batter he faced. Kole Klecker turned in a scoreless inning. Nate Stern (1-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed a run and struck out five of the seven batters he faced.
