GoFrogs: Anderson Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

DALLAS -- TCU's Darius Anderson has been named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, presented to the nation's top running back.

Anderson has rushed for 1,595 yards and 12 touchdowns in his TCU career. His 5.7 per carry average ranks sixth in TCU history, just behind Pro Football Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson who's fifth at 5.8.

A senior from Richmond, Texas, Anderson rushed for 598 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games last season. His 154 yards on 12 carries against Ohio State marked the second-best total of his career and his fourth 100-yard effort. His 93-yard scoring run against the Buckeyes was the longest rushing play in TCU history, bettering the previous mark of 89 yards by Tomlinson versus UTEP in 2000 and San Jose State in 1999. It tied for the fourth-longest play from scrimmage at TCU and was the longest play allowed by Ohio State in its history.

Anderson was on pace for a 1,000-yard season as a sophomore in 2017, before being sidelined for the season by injury. He had a team-high 768 yards and eight touchdowns. He was the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns, as well as totaling a career-high four receptions, in a 44-31 win at No. 6 Oklahoma State. He also ran for 106 and 99 yards in victories over Arkansas and Texas, respectively.

Tomlinson was the 2000 Doak Walker Award recipient.
