10th Annual First Pitch Banquet Set For Feb. 8

Tom Grieve will be the featured speaker

FORT WORTH - The 10th annual TCU Baseball First Pitch Banquet will be held on Friday, February 8 at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel in downtown Fort Worth. Texas Rangers TV color analyst Tom Grieve will be the featured speaker at the event.

"This event always signifies the true beginning of our season," said head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "It's a great opportunity to briefly honor last year's team and introduce the 2013 edition of the TCU Baseball team. We are honored to have Tom Grieve as our featured guest and encourage all TCU and Texas Rangers fans to attend."

Grieve, a member of the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame, has deep ties to the TCU baseball program. His son, Tim, was a three-time letterwinner at TCU from 1992-94. After an outstanding prep career, Grieve was drafted in the first round of the 1966 June draft by the Washington Senators. A 10-year career in the Major Leagues saw Grieve play for the Senators/Rangers organization, the New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Upon retiring, Grieve immediately joined the Rangers organization as the director of group sales in 1980. In 1984, he became the youngest General Manager in baseball at the time and stayed in that role for 10 years. It's still the longest tenure served in franchise history. Grieve made the move to the broadcaster's booth in 1995. He was elected into the Rangers Hall of Fame in 2010.

The banquet will be held at The Worthington Renaissance Hotel, with a reception beginning at 6:15 p.m. and dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Cost for the event is $100 per seat or a table of 10 for $1000. Attendees also have the opportunity to sponsor a player for $100. Dress for the event calls for business attire. Proceeds will go to supporting the TCU baseball team with scholarships, equipment and travel aide.
