If I were the OC, I would refuse my paycheck. Not sure how anything in that “performance” reflects much job accomplishment. Still say Schobel will be the Qb by October.

I was leery of the new pro-style, ground and pound approach. I think it’s hard to make that work in today’s game. It’s damn near impossible to do it with a QB that won’t run.

Not only that, but to a degree, you are committing to bringing in and retaining some pretty salty O linemen. If plan is to run it down everyones throat you probably need $$ to back up the plan, unless you think you can develop mid talent consistently. We’ve been waiting on that promise for years. The Briles veer and shoot stuff may generate a lot of empty calories but you know you can move the ball with a picked over player pool.

It’s just one game. We’ll see.

I hope this offense will find its footing, but I have to say that yesterday it never felt like this was the type of offense that can score in the last few minutes if they have to do it. Just never got that feeling. I hate to say it, but I would have had a lot more confidence with the Hoover / Briles offense going into the fourth quarter yesterday.

Yes, the B12 isn't the same as 2010-2021 in terms of high scoring shoot-outs, but we're still gonna have to have something in the arsenal to overcome two-possession games in the fourth quarter. Hopefully, getting our best receiver back helps that a little.

Or Schobel.

First games are always a crap shoot. Lots of good teams lay eggs, and they can derail an entire season. This is just another reason why this was a terrible, unforgivable scheduling decision by our leadership. If Sonny can't get this team under control, the entire season could already be over.

Continuous propaganda from a lot of different sources, the betting line went from - 6 1/2 to - 9 1/2 so the betting public bought the propaganda also.

We don't have the highly talented stars we use to have, just a lot of mediocre kids trying to play the game, Hopefully we can go 6-6 and get to a toilet bowl to work with some of our freshmen bunch. The thing I kept watching was the play action to Payne and Craig never pulled it out and ran. UNC was able to tee up on Payne because there was never a real threat of a QB run. I think if Craig had taken off and ran it would have opened a hell of a lot of wide open field. Especially that 4th down from the 5 that closed out the game. No need to throw a low percentage pass behind the receiver off the wrong foot. Should have tucked it and hit the pilon.

Just makes no sense at all that the QB never became part of the running game. Wonder what the logic was there? Whatever it was it took away a whole dimension for the offense that was sorely missing and made it easier to defend against us.

Boykin and Duggan would put the team on their backs in the fourth quarter and make plays with their feet. Dalton could do it, too. Even Pachall, though it looked awkward. We haven’t had that since 2022.

Hoover would have scored on that play. He wouldn’t let a wide open field keep him from going for it. Worst case it would have been a first and goal from the one. Last year we were lamenting the missed opportunities where we let games get away from us that were very winnable. Here we go again- shooting ourselves in the foot in our first game. Lose by 5 points and can’t score in the second half? Sheesh!

Not a good showing for sure against a mediocre team. The entire Athletic Dept. is in over their heads except Avalos, Malcolm and one or two others and you can throw in the current Administration also who approved this trainwreck and wondering now as they ring their hands, "oh me, oh my."
