FWST: With bowl loss as capper, TCU can say 2012 is best forgotten

TEMPE, Ariz. -- There were no hats, no horns, no confetti late Saturday night in the TCU locker room.

But for Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson, it was going to be a happy new year moment nonetheless.

Time to say goodbye -- and good riddance -- to 2012. To the wearisome year that began with a drug bust that involved four TCU players. To a year that cost Patterson his best running back, Waymon James, with a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. To a year that saw TCU's starting quarterback, Casey Pachall, leave the university after his arrest on suspicion of DWI. To a year when the Frogs had to swim the choppy Big 12 waters for the first time, with a redshirt freshman replacement at quarterback.

And finally to Saturday night, when a fumbled punt inside the 10-yard line turned the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Michigan State's favor, 17-16.

That's a lot of auld lang syne best forgotten, as Patterson seemed fully ready to do Saturday night. ...

If Pachall returns to school, as the football staff appears to quietly expect him to, he should immediately reassume his playmaking role. Any notion of a quarterback controversy or a spring competition for the No. 1 job should have been dispelled Saturday night. -----------Spot on Gil!

I'm happy the tribulations of 2012 are behind us, but there were also several things I will treasure.

The opening of the all-new Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The avenging of 2011's embarrassing loss to Baylor.

The mauling the Frogs laid on the Horns in Austin.

And most of all...

Taking my beloved grandson to his first home and away TCU football games.

Seeing old TCU friends like Navy Frog and his wife, PB87 and many others.

It was a difficult season, but it was also a joy - as all TCU seasons are, for me!

Go Frogs!

The w's in Morgantown and Austin were great.

This season was a gigantic roller coaster. I don't know that, in my short 12 years as a Frog fan (8 of those as student/alum), I've ever experience such an up and down between high's and low's in one season. And with all the struggles behind us, I can say this: It was a privilege to watch these fellas fight through everything they did this season, stay competitive in almost every game, and never ever gave up. Saturday night was so frustrating, and put a very fitting cap on the season, but again, proud of the way these guys fought through everything this season.

This season I enjoyed the opening of the newly renovated Amon G Carter stadium and getting to go to see the Frogs beat UT on Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to the Frogs taking down the Big 12 in 2013!

Well said! My sentiments exactly and it was NEVER dull.

What a negative Nancy. 2012 was a year to remember. We opened a brand new stadium, sold out most of our games, beat UT in Austin on Thanksgiving, lost 20+ players and still finished with a winning season.

Lot of great memories. And things to build on.
