Why TCU football’s team captains called a players-only meeting after loss to UCF

Steven Johnson

Sensing the season potentially slipping away, TCU football’s team captains came together on Monday to have a players-only meeting.

The decision came after a sloppy penalty and turnover-filled 21-13 loss in the Big 12 opener at Central Florida. With No. 10 BYU (3-0, 1-0) headed to Fort Worth for a 6 p.m. Saturday night showdown, the Horned Frogs (2-2, 0-1) know a change is needed quickly.

The team captains include senior quarterback Jaden Craig, senior offensive tackle Ben Taylor-Whitfield, senior safety Jamel Johnson, senior linebacker Hudson Hooper and senior defensive tackle Ansel Din-Mbuh.

Players only meetings. Always acts of desperation.

I was part of a players-only meeting early in the 2004 season. We went on to go 5-6.

not getting coaches input seems like the right idea to me.

Maybe players only practice and games too? Like, it cant get worse so why not?

That was a weird year. The Tech annihilation really colored the rest of the year.

Of course, 2005 was a very special year, and I tend to think that the crucible of '04 helped that.

I commend them for trying to do something about their play in games. I doubt that such a meeting changes the outcome of the next game but hey go for it. Against BYU it couldn’t hurt. Make it a trap game for them! Also remember how little they think of TCU anyway. At least give them something to remember when they leave for home.

They'll be fine. What it will do is make the groundskeepers cry...

We have lightning detectors for the very same reason we don't have high dives and tether ball. What a shame.
