Why TCU can’t officially honor arguably the best team in its history & record-setting QB

The celebration should be on the field, but there are extenuating circumstances. Maybe later.

On Friday and Saturday, significant players and coaches in TCU’s history will reunite for an anniversary of the teams that played in the 1984 Bluebonnet Bowl, 1994 Independence Bowl, and 2014 Peach Bowl.

There will be a large tailgate before TCU’s home game on Saturday against Texas Tech, and former coach Gary Patterson and quarterback Trevone Boykin are expected to attend. The events and celebrations will be hosted not by TCU but rather the Block T Association, the group that is affiliated but not run directly by the university.

I’d just as soon TCU kept its distance from TB, unless/until he shows a long track record of atonement and positive behavior to offset his horrible actions. Violent felons, no thanks.

I don’t recall so feel free on the ginkgo biloba jokes—did Boykin complete his degree. If not, could he still?

From the article:

When Boykin graduated from TCU, the level of celebration went far beyond the standard reaction for a student athlete who walks across the stage to receive their diploma. Everyone who knew Boykin, and specifically where he came from, was well aware that the rigors of college course work was not easy.

“It was a goal that I set for myself, not knowing when I was going to leave school or how things were going to play out,” he said. “As good as everyone thought I was, I had doubts how things would pan out. Education was one of those things that I wanted to be able to hang my hat on if football didn’t work out.”

I think that it is insulting that TCU can’t/wont recognize a man who contributed so much to the university without any compensation, made a huge mistake, and in-turn paid for his crime, but we can pay million$ to a [ Baylor accusations ] facilitator and excuser to walk our sidelines, and coach our young men without even as much as an apology to the one who’s lives he helped ruin. That is the most scheissing hypocritical thing I can think of.
NOTE: My apologies for the terrible run-on sentence…

Here's the answer.

I came across the article not on here, but on X after it was linked by multiple players from that 2014 team, expressing disappointment that they are not be recognized on their 10-year anniversary.

Let's be clear. He didn't just make a huge mistake. He made like...three huge mistakes. Maybe more. If it was just the Alamo Bowl incident that would be one thing. Breaking a girl's jaw is a bit harder to come back from.

And yes, the Briles / Kaz hires are hypocritical. No argument there.

That's a big stretch.

If that's the most scheissing hypocritical thing you can think of, you're not putting much thought into it.

Was I supposed to type something here?
It is hard to believe that, all of a sudden, TCU Athletics realizes it's a bad look to recognize someone who has (among other things) assaulted a woman. Little bit of selective outrage there, eh?

The 2014 Frogs were a special bunch, and they deserve a helluva lot better than they are getting.

That article was a hot mess of non-linear and incomplete thoughts. It had the bones of being a great read, but somehow Muck, well, mucked it up.

Despite the headline (which he likely didn't write), it never actually said that TCU was not allowing him to be a part of any celebration. They aren't letting the 1984 and and 1994 teams on the field, either. There's no quote from anyone at TCU saying that the 2014 Team sans Trevone Boykin (and Gary Patterson) would be allowed to be recognized, either.

It's all just conjecture on Muck's part, but gave him an opportunity to passive-aggressively belittle TCU.

If we are claiming the co-title, I don't see the harm in a :60 video of highlights combined with announcing the team in the end zone. It's not like you have to list individual team members over the PA.

The Alamo Bowl incident was just one of the stupid things he did.
Breaking the girl’s jaw was what I was talking about. It was criminal and he did time for his crime.
