FWST: Why Mike Buddie was so eager to become the next AD at TCU

Sadly, Jim Goode passed and things began to slip.

I left Houston 5 years ago, and haven't looked back. The few times I have traveled back for visiting my MiL have been reminders of why I was so happy to leave. The only constant is change, and the only change seems to be for the worse. While I treasure the memories of the Old City, and the places we used to go, those places are gone. Bulldozed for the New and Improved! Smashed for Urban Renewal!

(Making grumpy curmudgeon noises...)
I’ll give you a harrumph. Agree to all that and more, especially the traffic from hell. My folks moved to Huntsville to get away from it 40 years ago now, and it’s damn near reached all the way up there.
Ed: Still love Galveston tho, especially in winter despite of Tillman’s best efforts to darn it up.

I was a freshman at Wesleyan new years' eve 1987. Pantera was at some bar in Arlington. I was expecting a hair band doing Van Halen covers or something. I show up in a Ratt t-shirt and they are playing all this death and destruction thrash. Only song I recognized was Metallica's Am I Evil. I halfway expected to get killed that night.
I saw Pantera at Madison Square Garden last year. A client of mine, believe it or not, is a huge fan, so we took him.

Tex Williams was an American country music singer and songwriter, best known for his distinctive baritone voice and his contributions to the Western swing genre. Born on August 23, 1917, in Littlefield, Texas, Williams gained fame in the 1940s and 1950s. He was a member of the popular band the Western Caravan and became known for his hit songs, including "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)." His music often featured a blend of traditional country, swing, and honky-tonk styles.

Swallowed, digested, and pooped. The coup de grace was probably Exxon moving from DFW to a big campus in Woodlands. Woodlands/Conroe already so congested that lots of their workers are living in Huntsville and commuting.
My Aunt had a quiet place on the shore of Elkins Lake just outside Huntsville—so peaceful, whispering evergreen trees, silent golf carts zooming about. I miss our visits there.

Bet you can still get a little airborne on those I-45 side/service roads.
We were returning from a funeral in Houston q15-20 years ago, had turned off at the State Park exit then continued Northbound to Elkins on the West side service road. I'm driving, my brother shotgun and parents in the back. Out of nowhere a pickup on the SB side of 45 goes airborne in our direction. For an instant I about had kittens because they were so high I thought they might reach us. Then nosedive, and barrel roll and end over end a couple times. I got to them first. Thank God they were both wearing seatbelts- They were just shook up a bit. Driver said they'd been fishing, my guess is he probably fell asleep, he didn't seem impaired.
So, yes. You can. ;) The good news is, the service roads have now for the most part become one-way, instead of two-way, which led to many many head-on collisions over the decades.
