The normally quiet postgame scene outside TCU's locker room was much more chaotic the night Kansas State played in Fort Worth. A crowd of recruits and families filled the hallway, waiting to chat with coaches and players.

TCU had just lost to Kansas State, but the Horned Frogs were still winners, because they were able to lure top recruits to the campus by playing the No. 2 team in the country.

While not all of the players who came for the game Nov. 10 had TCU at the top of their list, the school's entrance into the Big 12 has accomplished what coach Gary Patterson said was half the fight.

"We've had kids that we've recruited but we couldn't get them on campus now come on campus, now looking, seeing what kind of new locker room we have, they see the new indoor [practice facility], they see the new stadium, they see the kind of crowds we have," Patterson said at the Big 12 Media Days in July. ...

Nice, but the current crop of recruits are the same blue-collar types that we've gotten in the past. Nothing has really changed with regard to the commits that we are getting.... yet.

That is not true. More of these recruits are from DFW. In the past, we largely recruited smaller towns and East Texas. We are now recruiting and winning in some high schools where we had no success in the past. That should lead to even greater success down the road as we can more easily compete for big fish who go to those same high schools. Even now, some of those players like Trevorris Johnson and Patrick Morris are top level recruits. Plus, TCU is still in the running for several big fish right now.

Maybe not with Knox but we are in good shape with others at All Saints. Also, if Knox is just a guard in college (doesn't grow into a OT) as the services are saying, his big fish status is debatable as well. Plus, UT had to offer Daniel Gresham early to get him where we did not offer at all. So this one was more a package deal situation rather than a head to head battle.

Let's not kid ourselves, this year's class is solid but is not better than previous classes. The drug bust hurt TCU a lot but if we can just land 1 or 2 really big recruits 2014's class is going to be sick. This class will be decent to very good. Next year's has the potential to be awesome, especially if we beat OU.

This year's class isn't over yet. Watch and see as this class picks up steam going into February.

more like not as good as the past few years.

As for it not being over that's why I said decent (zero big names and a bunch of good players) to very good (2 big names and a bunch of good players).

Our talent evaluation is near best but even then that would mean our class was at best 6th or 5th best in the big 12 not 9th where it's currently ranked

So far we have zero top recruits but yes if we got Manning and Billings that would make it go from decent to very good. Superb would be a top 25 class. Never expecting a top 5 class but we aren't even near that. Blanchard will be good but we already have solid corners and he isn't a top flight prospect.
