TCU men’s basketball will be without starting center for remainder of the season
Steven JohnsonTCU men’s basketball got more bad news in the aftermath of its shocking season-opening defeat to New Orleans on Monday.
The Horned Frogs announced late Tuesday that starting center Malick Diallo will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
Diallo, a 6-foot-9 sophomore from Mali, played just seven minutes in the loss to New Orleans, exiting with 8:29 remaining in the first half. Diallo appeared in 29 games last season, averaging 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds, and was expected to play a pivotal role for a TCU team that lacks depth at center.
Diallo’s injury will put more pressure on Florida International transfer Vianney Salatchoum, who missed the matchup against New Orleans with an injury. The Horned Frogs will also have to play forwards David Punch and Xavier Edmonds more at center despite both being undersized (6-7 and 6-8, respectively).
The Horned Frogs return to action against Saint Francis at 7 p.m. Thursday at Schollmaier Arena. The game will be broadcast on TNT. The Red Flash lost to Oklahoma 102-66 in their opener Monday.
