TCU football notebook: Sonny Dykes provides injury update on Hauss Hejny, wide receivers

While the Horned Frogs were able to get out of Palo Alto with a 34-27 win over Stanford last Friday, TCU was unable to get out of the game unscathed injury wise.

During his weekly press conference, TCU head football coach Sonny Dykes provided an update on a number of injured Horned Frogs, starting with true freshman quarterback Hauss Hejny.

“Hauss is going to be out a couple weeks,” Dykes said. “Maybe a little longer. It’s kind of hard to tell right now, but he’s actually way ahead of where he would be at this stage.”

Well, good job with the in-game substitution, TCU Staff. It certainly didn't look like it was a "planned" sub, judging from the look on Hoover's face, no matter what the post-game excuse was. Hejny didn't look prepared, and he wound up hurt thanks to the little stunt.

I shudder to think what results your next trick will bring...

In today's game, if you don't get your star recruits playing time, they will be in a different color jersey next season.

I thought that Hoover had a look of total surprise and dismay on his face. As a minister and counselor I am pretty good at ready body language and expressions and his was not one showing that he knew all of that was going to happen.

Anyone following TCU football knew Hejny would be getting a series or two in most if not every game so Hoover knew it would happen. He may not have known precisely when but he certainly knew it would happen

Looked like it was practiced for him to go in under center in a short yardage sitch. I expect to see him in a goal line package as a run threat.

Ignoring the risk to injury to a kid just barely out of HS (he’s really lucky his injury wasn’t worse; looked to be Achilles), it was stupid to take your starter out because it took him completely out of rhythm (went 2/11 on his next 13 passes).

Well, adios to him then. Or aufwiedersen* I suppose. I never took him as a kid who would jump ship because he wasn't coddled enough. Maybe I'm wrong.

Whatever the case, it was a boneheaded move and it got him hurt, in addition to shaking up our putative starter. I don't know whose call it was to pull it, either Sonny or the Whelp, but it was just dumb and counterproductive.

I thought it was a bit unnecessary to play Hauss at that point in the game, but I guess I understand WHY they did it. Unfortunately, it resulted in him getting injured (obviously a consequence that was unforeseen). I guess we might get to see Ken Seals up next. I am actually interested to see him play.

Yes it was a weird spot to put him in but if he went out there completed a couple pass and ran a couple times you would say play him more. They were likely trying to jump start the run game. Because he got injured some of you are bashing the coach for no reason. Give it a break.
Agreed. Easily the worst take of the young season and competition has been fierce

Am I like the only poster here who liked inserting Hauss when we did? I thought it was the right time to give a different look and let him get his first snaps out of the way. Only thing I thought was odd was how quickly he came back off the field. (Which made more sense once we found out about the injury situation)
