FWST: TCU football needs more from QB Josh Hoover if it wants to contend in Big 12 | Opinion

At some point excuses get old. You either deliver or don’t. Duggan knew the answer to his doubts when not sure or when confronted with a defense lineman in his face, he ran the F ing ball! Im not insinuating he run as much as Duggan but keep the defense honest!! Hoover seems to be full of himself when he has a good game and gets praise. I have not seen the discomfort given to him or given to himself. The receivers know!! If Hoover wants to blossom he needs to audible plays to spite Briles. Be a true leader!
Go Frogs!
Fair point here IMO. Too many times after bonehead plays, Hoover seems to have a very casual "oh, darn, I just screwed up again" vibe to him. Hard to pinpoint exactly, but with other guys there seems to be more of an urgency to get things right. He's just so casual and joe cool out there.

Audibling plays to spite your OC is just dumb, though.

Running QB's put so much stress on a defense....and Hoov either won't, can't, or not allowed to. Until he can become a threat, he's a drop back passer and the defense can mix the blitz with coverage schemes.... And given that we don't have much of a play-action threat... Well, not a good recipe. Not having to account for that at all (at this level) makes D game planning much easier.

The run game isn't helping Hoover. The play calling isn't helping Hoover. Most importantly though, Hoover isn't helping himself.

All season long he has been attempting throws into tight coverage windows. He's locked onto receivers and failed to run through his progressions. He's missed open recievers for solid gains in favor of trying to get bigger plays. Sometimes he's gotten away with it and sometimes he hasn't. The consistency that I was expecting from him hasn't been tthere. Is some of the the poor OL play, certainly. However, I expected a dark horse Heisman candidate to do better than playing a couple good quarters per game.

Re: RPO, the intent of my question was how often does Hoov have the option to call a run or a pass at the LOS once he reads how many the defense has in the box?

What has happened to Jordan Dwyer since NC?? I don't think it's Hoover's fault. Most if not all of Hoover's mistakes were the result of Mule Piss play calling. In the 1st half at KSU you DO NOT call 20+ yard slant and out routes during most of the 1st half. You have to provide your QB some easy 8-15 yard completions to get in rhythm. What on earth happened to the beautiful 8–12-yard hooks that we saw last year to Bech?? Those routes often turned into 20 + yard field eaters.

Baylor has had two weeks to prepare for TCU after beating KSU. Have you checked out Baylor's DL?? very FCS. The upcoming game will be determined by coaching. Yes, Frogs are more athletic. But TCU coaches calls wrinkles will determine the outcome.

Biggest mismatch for TCU against Baylor is DJ Rogers. He needs to get the ball at least 10 times this weekend.

I thought Barnes has looked good when healthy but you can't just have 1 reliable back. We also seem to abandon the run even if successful for passing plays which is a complete head scratcher but we have beat the crap out of the OC all over the place already for play selection.

yeah, but lets do it some more
