FWST: Patterson could change tradition to help TCU at home

TCU coach Gary Patterson said before the season that if his team didn't play well after incorporating a new "Frog Walk" into its pregame itinerary he'd consider nixing the idea in the future.

So far the Frog Walk is on thin ice. TCU is 0-3 in Big 12 games at Amon G. Carter Stadium, with the last chance coming against 11th-ranked Oklahoma (9-2, 7-1 in the Big 12) at 11 a.m. Saturday.

"We may cut that out," Patterson said of the Frog Walk, a tradition started this season in which fans cheer on TCU players and coaches as they walk from buses to the locker room two and a half hours before each home game. "I'm going to do whatever I've got to do to get ourselves back." ...

TCU has a tradition of starting new traditions i guess?

So why not change something again?

It was a nice idea but it should not survive. Now, if TCU was undefeated at home.....

And maybe we need to ditch the black jerseys for awhile...

I agree if it is not helping drop it! I don't know if this is something that hypes the players or is just another idea people come up with to force a tradition. Years ago we had another tradition called losing. I don't want that tradition to return!!!!

It seems like a novel way to allow Frog fans to see and

interact with the team's players on a personal level. If

anyone rationally believes that having the team walk

through Frog Alley will result in dire consequences on

the outcome of a game or the season.....well.

Can't tell if the players care, so far. 90 percent are wearing full size headphones and studiously avoiding eye contact with anybody. Most look like they consider the "Frog Walk" to be a PITA. GP seems to be the only person who consistently has any interaction with the fans.

IMO, if the players aren't getting anything out of it we need to just let it go.

I know he's incredibly superstitious, but superstitions are silly IMO. Play like we are supposed to play, and we win games. Turnovers are not flukes or curses, they are mistakes made by players who didn't do what they are supposed to do. Obviously it works for Coach P. I just think the worrying about a new frog walk, frogs on the helmet, etc is silly. Now if it's something done to improve or pump up motivation, I understand. But more often than not, falling back on superstitions is nothing more than a crutch for failure (that concept was drilled into my brain by dad/grandpa/several coaches).
