OMAHA, Neb. -- Right after claiming the Mountain West Conference tournament title three weeks ago with a 2-0 win over New Mexico on a cool night in San Diego, TCU first baseman Matt Curry took a question about prevailing in a tense game in front of a sparse crowd at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
"It feels great, but it's going to be a lot worse in Omaha," Curry said without a hint of hyperbole. "It's great because it got some of our younger guys used to that atmosphere and got their hearts pumping a little bit. Hopefully, they'll be more comfortable the next time we get in that type of dogfight situation."
Curry's matter-of-fact mention of the College World Series is an accurate indication of where the team's collective psyche has been all season. The Horned Frogs, one game away in 2009, didn't view the CWS as a goal as much as they viewed it as their final destination in 2010. ...
