FWST: No further penalty for Oklahoma lineman's "push" on TCU's Maponga

Oklahoma offensive lineman Tyrus Thompson will not be suspended for what TCU fans considered a punch to the head of TCU defensive lineman Stansly Maponga in last week’s game.

The Big 12 Conference supervisor of officials Walt Anderson reviewed Thompson “pushing” Maponga’s “head to the ground.” His review of the play supports the foul penalty assessed by game officials, an email from the league said. The Big 12 will take no further action.

Thompson was assessed a 15-yard personal foul on the play in the second quarter of OU’s 24-17. Replays appeared to show him on top of Maponga and striking him a couple times with his right arm.

Interesting.... My research concludes that it takes somewhere between 80 and 100 lbs per square inch of force to dislocate a knee. I wonder if that can be achieved with a "push"? Don't know....just wondering.

Hate to see the conference come off looking like idiots and biased in their decisions with something like this. Calling that "pushing" is a complete joke. You don't want to suspend the player, OK, but don't embarrass yourself and give the appearance of favortism and prejudice.

Didn't the ref explain when announcing the penalty that the player wouldn't be ejected because it happened after the whistle? Could've sworn I heard something to that effect. Assuming I wasn't hearing things, has anyone explained that logic yet?

Honestly, you could probably get away with calling the first hit a "push", the second hit clearly shows the player taking a full swing and Maponga's head snapping back. This has confirmed how corrupt the officiating is and how far they will go to protect OU and Texas.

It was Maponga's fault for leaving his head where Thompson wanted to put his fist.

Odd that it looked like several punches (obviously not a push) from 40 rows up in real time....amazing it could have looked like a push from field level.

I can almost understand how a ref might make a mistake like that during a game....but to make the same "mistake" having the luxury of time and reflection is simply.....shameful.

Shame on the Big 12 from top to bottom .....it's not your role to determine winners and losers........and, yes....TCU administration should be giving somebody unholyhell about now.

Hmmm...now that's a bit shady. One slight punch, fine. But, 3 punches and it's pretty obvious. Tyrus is luck no one "pushed" a chop block into his knees.
