NCAA Must Show It Is Willing To Walk The Walk On NIL Guidelines

BY BRYAN DRISKELL SPORTS ILLUSTRATED NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH NEWS, ANALYSIS AND MORE

Yesterday the NCAA Division I Board of Directors released a set of guidelines regarding name, image and likeness that is geared towards eliminating outside entities from using NIL rules to entice high school prospects to their program or from getting transfers to switch schools.

Schools like USC and Alabama have been so brazen with their pursuit of transfers, and programs like Texas A&M and Tennessee are doing it with prep players, that the NCAA knows something must be done no matter how hard it has tried to avoid doing anything.

"...the NCAA knows something must be done no matter how hard it has tried to avoid doing anything."

I think the NCAA recognizes that if they take a hardline position of "our way or else!" the big money-makers will think for about half a second before saying "We'll take 'or else'" and walk away to form their own group...probably with the help and certainly with the blessing of The Mouse.

I don't think they need to walk away. The B1G the SEC very shortly will be making twice what the PAC/ACC/BIG12 make. When the NCAA enforcement division comes calling the B1GSEC can just say "We don't want any." If the enforcement division lays down penalties the B1GSEC can sue them. Like Penn State when they were hit with the Sandusky sanctions. They sued and won.

There's absolutely no way to keep boosters away from players. Like Aggies and sheep.

You know... maybe its just about time for the little P5s to form their own organization if the NCAA want to go with the BIGSEC. Majority of kids are not willing to go to schools that are 4 deep in 4 and 5 star players(so plenty of talent for the other 3 leagues)... most kids want to play and there will be reasonable NIL elsewhere for them. Then eventually it would require an alternative National playoff format.

In such a scenario ... would the NCAA prefer the BIGSEC or the Little P5(3)/G5 whom they can work with year in year out, and not bullied!

Good idea. An "Alliance" for the ACC, PAC and Big12. Real college football played by actual students.

In any case, half the BIGSEC schools are not going to worry too much about academics from their recruits... and sure we can figure out which half ...

No school is exempted ... but their are obvious cultural differences in the leagues of the BIG(practically all AAU schools) and the SEC...

similar to the difference between a gold digger and a prostitute

one isn't afraid to admit what they are and what motivates them

guess that could be said about kansas and how they gave self a lifetime contract, but wait, they are an aau school aren't they and did that with self and hired les with all his baggage......huh

while we are playing this game of academics matter remind me who the other school in the big 12 is that is a member of the aau
