FWST: Mississippi State could offer enough to lure away TCU's Jim Schlossnagle

I would like to know, if anyone knows, do the MSU baseball fans bring and ring those cowbells at their baseball games?

If so, then the choice is easy in my opinion. It’d be like coaching a Friday night football game between Merkel and Cross Plains.

Y'all don't care about it like we do. If you follow baseball you understand that.

Baseball may have a nice loyal follow at TCU, but baseball is big time in Starkville. It had been for a long time.

We started to growth of baseball in the SEC and NCAA. We were the first to build a really nice stadium, now that it's out of date, we are building the nicest stadium in college baseball.

Maybe I was a little smirky to say y'all don't care about baseball. I just have seen nothing but people trashing Mississippi State.

So i apologize for saying y'all don't care much....what I should have said is y'all don't care about baseball on the same level we do. Baseball is a big deal here. A really big deal

baseball is big time there and you care about it more than we do? that's really impressive considering you've made the CWS once in the past decade.

Schloss may move, but there needs to be more to it than a nice stadium. This is a step down given the lack of talent relative to Texas and the relative position of the program in the SEC. The (roughly) 6th best program in the SEC?

Here’s the difference in the two of us. You’ve never been to FW. I’ve been inside your baseball stadium at least 10 times. You don’t care about baseball any more than we do. There’s just MORE of you because your enrollment is about 3 times as big as ours. If you wanna defend your school and city against the people on here that are posting negative comments I don’t blame you one bit but don’t do it by spewing ignorant [ deposit from a bull that looks like Art Briles ] that you openly admit you have no way of defending.

Hello. Mississippi State fan here. I come in peace. I just wanted to say a few good things about our program. I have seen a lot of negative things, and I hope you don't mind me sharing a few Mississippi State tidbits.

We have one of the top 5 fan bases in the country. Probably a top 3. Arguments an be made for the top fan base (I'd personally give that crown to LSU)

Not only do we have the largest on campus single game crowd at 15,586 in the NCAA....we have ALL of the top 14 largest crowds and 17 of the top 20. Legendary atmosphere here.

We will have the nicest stadium in the country. It's honestly not even anyone else in the discussion with us. Not bragging, but there will not be any thing remotely like it in college baseball. I won't go into a long winded description, but if you don't know already, but it's taking college baseball stadiums up to the next level. I think it will rival most AAA ballparks. That's going to help recruiting. What kid wouldn't want to play there?

Our AD. He was a baseball coach. He is VERY committed to baseball. Oh and he played and coached here. He played in a CWS and coached in a CWS here (head coach of a CWS runner up). And he's doing a damn good job, so we ain't getting rid of him and he ain't leaving. He is a baseball guy and he has bulldog in his blood.

play in the SEC. Baseball is bigger here. By a large margin. We do it big. Really big

The atmosphere in our stadium has always been considered one of the best. Virtually every list of best atmospheres and best stadiums have always had us near or at the top. ...and that was with the old stadium. With this new stadium it's very reasonable to think we can have the best atmospheres in college baseball bar none. That's going to help recruiting.

Now we do not have a national title, so we are not an elite program. But we are probably pretty well set in the next group of programs.

We are 13th all time in the NCAA in wins
We are 21 all time in NCAA in winning percentage
2nd in both all time SEC wins and Winning percentage
4th allme in SEC championship (11)
36 NCAA post season appearances
9 CWS appearances. And we have been pretty consistent
2 in the 70s
2 in the 80s
3 in the 90s
2 in the 2000s

We are not elite but we are a very good program. And with our facilities, Fan supports, financial commitment, AD support, conference, and histor.....all we need is an elite coach.

I honestly believe we are a sleeping giant. I can say this with certainty..... There isn't another program in the country that wants a title more than we do. Our adminstration wants it (just look at what we are building,) and our fans want it really really bad. Baseball is big here. It's important here. I don't have to words to properly explain the passion our fans have for baseball. But if you know about college baseball fanbases, I don't need to explain. You already know

That's a heck of a selling point. If you want to win titles, surround yourself with people who want it just as bad as you do.

Anyway. I hope nobody takes any offense to this. I am not bragging. I just think we have a lot to sell and wanted to set the record straight. Lots of people here seem to think we don't have much to offer. I humbly disagree.

And he could definitely want to stay at TCU. Absolutely a lot to offer from y'all. He has the program playing as good as anyone in the country. That's hard to do. Might not want to mess with a good thing.

Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all those that served and I hope those that gave all are resting peacefully.

Well you just outed yourself.

Well the only argument i see everyone here making for him to stay at TCU is the city. How many people at the top of their professions move to places their family may not like for the chance to better their career?

Our fanbase is much much larger and more passionate than TCU.
We actually care about baseball here. I am not convinced your administration and fans really care that much about baseball.
Mississippi state has a lot more history than TCU

Simply put. Overall Mississippi State is a better baseball program than TCU. I have never been to Ft Worth, so i will not comment on the city. I love small towns, so I love SV.

BS. How many times has TCU seen MSU in Omaha the last 4 years? BS on the idea that only FW is why he stays. You only get to raise your family once, he has raised his here. What he does next affects both kids tremendously. He has built this program, period. I was at Columbus when Clark and Palmero were at MSU. I am an LSU grad, Be glad they came in the 80's and not the 90's, otherwise they would have been in different uniforms for the simple reason they knew they could and would play for a NC almost every year. TCU has heard the fan base bs line a 1000 times too, you should see what it looked like when A&M played at SR in FW after announcing they would buy all our tickets. Thousands left crying their asses off in ANOTHER failed attempt to beat TCU. MSU is after TCU coach for one reason, they are sick of being LSU's beotch. I stand by my comments, SV MS is and always will be the worst city in the SEC.

There has been nothing but ignorant negative stuff spewed about Starkville here. I tried to come in with just a quick rundown of what is good about our program, but was met with mainly jokes and insults

So I will just say this. It looks like Schloss will be asked which one he would rather coach at. We will see what he says

Well and it’s Starkville - what is the other option on Friday night? Cruising Sonic?

The comparison to Aggy is pretty accurate other than college station has the benefit of being close enough to Houston and DFW for people to work in those cities and come back for games

I honestly have no idea where a MSU grad goes to get a job as a career that would allow them to come back often - I know fedex has a lot of MSU and Ole Miss grads. Maybe 4.5 hrs to Atlanta?

I wonder how much of this MSU expansion was done under previous tax laws. I see suites w bedrooms, like "vacation home". I am not a CPA but I expect to see some sweet deals on "vacation homes" owned by people that have mortgages on them that they now may not be able to keep. Gigantic stadiums are nice when you win, when you dont, then there are lots of echoes and bills to be paid.

I sadly feel like you will win that decision because of the ability to get kids into school academically and financially

Unfortunately his sweet wife will be the loser in that deal having to adapt

They used state money - what do you think Miss is doing with the casino profits? The biggest “city” in the whole state has less than 200k people so it’s not spent on major development projects and their state school system is only slightly better funded than before - so you give it to the State U’s so they can build $55 mil baseball parks for profit negative sports of course

If your tuition were comparable to ours, he wouldn’t even have answered your phone call. Good luck with Schloss. We’ll be fine. Can’t wait to beat you in a regional. Again.

There’s always that one guy from every fan base who comes in peace and pops off. Now get lost.

MSU fans are tired of watching LSU and Ole Miss kick their asses. A new stadium wont change it, SV is SV. MSU will get what the other SEC schools dont want. They have doubled the size of their football stadium and barring a couple of decent seasons it did nothing to get better players. Lastly, if Schloss has not sat through those obnoxious cowbells, he bettet, adding more of them should be a deal breaker.

I might ask how much "profit" there really is. Louisiana has casinos too and they are slashing budgets everywhere, all the way down to old people waiting to die in medicaid nursing homes. I cant imagine Mississippi economy is better than La.
