FWST: Martin running back Kyle Hicks switches commitment from Texas to TCU

TCU picked up a commitment Monday from Arlington Martin running back Kyle Hicks, who had originally pledged to Texas.

Former Martin teammate and future fellow Horned Frog Devonte Fields broke the story via Twitter.

"I just couldn't pass it up, it's a great offer," said Hicks, who said he committed to TCU around 1 p.m. "It's an outstanding football team and program, I can get a great education there and then, on top of that it's like 15 minutes from home. It doesn't get any better than that." ...

Glad to hear Hicks appreciates the value of a $200K education and being close to family. TCU held it together despite the adversity this year. People were watching.

Does this open up a recruiting pipeline to Martin and other Arlington schools for the frogs or did one already exist with the likes of getting Fields?

For every recruit we get wanting to be close to home we lose one for wanting to get away from home. Just the way it goes.

Got it. Let me ask the question differently. Does the fact we have Fields and now Hicks mean that the frogs have built stronger relationships recently with the Arlington football programs or were the relationships with those programs already strong way before these guys committed?

Absolutely IMO. Arlington has been an untapped well for the Frogs. I freakin' love this trend!

I think the new stadium is a huge catalyst for that. The atmosphere is so much more big time now.

Craig Miller on The Ticket, and OU fan, went to the game with Korby and couldn't rave enough about the stadium and tailgate seen and how perfect and bigtime it is. "Finally bigtime college football here in the metroex". Good stuff.

Ah, the Junior Miller stamp of approval. Nice. Would have liked to have heard that segment. Who was Korby rooting for in that game I wonder? Nevermind.....sure it was OU. Freakin' T-shirt fan.....

I realize this is the thing everyone says... And it is logical... But, I see us being able to lock down a higher class of player more often than 1-1 in the future. I keep coming back to the possibility of locking down the metro-plex in the same way the U of Miami locked down the Miami metro area in 80s and 90s*. It is very possible that we can get enough of the guys around DFW that things get very, very nice.

*Edit: they still do well today.

I disagree that it is untapped. It is actually one of the few pipelines TCU has. Devonte Fields is from Arlington Martin, Jaden Oberkromb (sp?) is from Arlington Martin, Deyck Gildon is from Martin, as is Hicks obviously. Then you have Steve Wesley and Sammy Douglas from Arlington, in addition to Listenbee from last year and Laderice Sanders if you go back to 2011.

There are a couple stuf 2014 recruits at Arlington Martin and Arlington Bowie that I hope receive interest from TCU and reciprocate it, DE Myles Garrett and S Edwin Freeman respectively.
