I never understood how or why our D-Line grew progressively worst. If there was any area he had a long track record of putting people in the pros going all the way back to the Schobels and Jerry Hughes, it was DE end. I dont udnerstand the schematic issues with his defense and RPO but it was clear our D-Line and ends in particular were seriously down the last few years from where they were before.

Well, honestly, I am surprised. Love Sam. But his coaching career was on a downward trend. Mizzou to Arky to Purdue to La Tech. Hope he has a revival under Coach P at USC. He does know Gary's defense.

Was I supposed to type something here?

If memory serves, he was recruiting for speed first, size second. Thus, after all the shouting, we had undersized kids at positions that required some size to be effective.

His defense requires a powerful defensive line to be effective. Without that pressure, offenses could pick apart the secondary no matter how fast they were.
