FWST: Kendal Briles’ simple move changed more than just TCU’s entire season. It saved jobs.

That's the thing. Coaches thought coming in we would have a good run game. When it became apparent we didn't Briles installed the new package.

After what I saw last spring our coaches would have to be morons to have thought we'd have a good run game this year. Cause it was obvious our oline couldn't block.

It was a bumpy ride, it's too bad we couldn't win another game or two. We could have had we not collapsed down the stretch against UCF and found a way to finish against Baylor. I'd say we could have beat Houston had we not turned the ball over more but they pretty much beat us fair and square. Freakin Houston.

What's funny to me is listening to those (who obviously have it out for this coaching staff and/or AD and just want to [ hundin] about everything because of that) pretend that this program was winning 10+ games every year prior to their arrival, and conveniently forget the SEVEN seasons from 2012-2021 where we did not even win 8 games.

That was an original?

I do think Briles has put some interesting twists on the WildFrog formation to keep defenses guessing. Doing some interesting things out of it.

For those that don't remember, the Cowgirls did a week or two previous. Of course the wildcat had been around, its just not usually done with a wideout. It was quite obvious Briles got the idea from the girls who had just previously done it with their wideout.

This is sorta true. It was a delusional trap that the coaches fell right into.
The coaches thought the O-line was struggling a bit, because the D-Line was so flippin’ good/aggressive.
In fact, they both sucked.
They also underestimated the difficulty of installing a completely new defense with completely new players for the most part. …but so did just about everyone.

Was I supposed to type something here?

I know that some consider me "a beating" on points like this, but I flog it because it is a repeated failure of this particular Staff:

Know Yourself and Enemy

According to Sun Tzu, “Know thyself” is a crucial aspect of his famous quote: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer defeat.” This concept is often overlooked, yet it holds significant importance in Sun Tzu’s military strategy and philosophy.

Knowing Yourself

In this context, “knowing yourself” means understanding your own:
  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • Capabilities and limitations
  • Motivations and biases
  • Emotional and psychological vulnerabilities
By acknowledging and accepting your own nature, you can:
  • Make informed decisions about when to engage or disengage from conflicts
  • Adapt your tactics to compensate for your weaknesses
  • Leverage your strengths to achieve success
  • Recognize and mitigate the impact of your own emotions and biases on your decision-making

Implications

When you know yourself, you:
  • Are better equipped to anticipate and prepare for your own mistakes
  • Can more effectively counter your own emotional responses to stress and uncertainty
  • Are more likely to recognize and exploit your own unique advantages
  • Are less prone to underestimating or overestimating your own abilities
(The above thanks to the Brave browser AI, which I have never fiddled with before...)

Our continued weakness in the areas of 1.) Talent evaluation, 2.) Player development, and 3.) Awareness of Team Status and Capabilities, will be an ongoing issue. "Hope clouds observation" noted the estimable Frank Herbert, and while one hopes that our Staff recognizes this weakness in themselves, we can also hope that they remain mindful of it and strive to be less blindly optimistic.

Leave the blind optimism to us fans.

When do you think the weakness in all these areas began? What year?

I doubt that.
Both front lines have already been greatly improved for next year thru internal growth and recruiting, plus the return of Cade Bennett & Paul Oyewale from early season ending injuries this year.
There is a lot of talent on this team, and by the end of December, a few more starters and all the depth chart patches will be added.

With the number of analysts on TCU's payroll, I hope that Sonny is getting scouting reports on his own team that are not influenced by a personal friendships involving the analysts and the coaching staff.

That may be hard to pull off.
