FWST: Johnson hopes TCU more inspired against Houston

TCU coach Trent Johnson wasn't quite sure what led to the Horned Frogs' uninspired performance against Southern Utah last week.

The Frogs (6-2) won despite playing without injured forward Nate Butler, but Johnson wasn't happy with what he saw. Too many extra dribbles, too many weak drives in traffic resulting in turnovers or altered shots, and too many defensive mental lapses.

"We didn't compete as hard as we should compete and it's a problem," Johnson said. "We were sluggish."

He hopes the 61-52 win Thursday, which wasn't secure until the final minutes, spurs TCU, with Houston (5-2) coming in at 8 tonight to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Cougars won their first five before losing to Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M. ...

I have been really impressed with Johnson. His coaching experience and knowledge of how to build a successful program is very apparent. He has been aggressive in recruiting and bring in players to TCU that will make us nationally competitive. He has raised the standard of expectations. He is pulling the program out from our subpar and average past and driving toward excellence! I'm really excited about the future of TCU basketball!

Tip of the hat to you Mr. Johnson, well done, good job, keep doing what you're doing!

I have been looking forward to this game. Daniel House is someone that I had hoped the Frogs would be able to land before he picked UH. Houston and the rest of the BE/CUSA set are important games for us if we are going to beat these guys on the recruiting trail and elevate our program. Not an easy task for a depleted team, but we are capable of winning this one tonight.
