FWST: Jason Verrett perseveres with the TCU Horned Frogs

Jason Verrett was embarrassed, frustrated and in tears.

His confidence was shot, his head was swirling with second-guesses and he was telling friends and family that he was through.

Through with TCU, through with Fort Worth. He was ready to bail on his childhood dream of playing big-time college football.

He wanted to leave TCU, head back home to California and forget he had ever become a Horned Frog in the first place.

All this anguish was occurring minutes after TCU lost the 2011 season opener at Baylor, 50-48. The eventual Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin III, and All-America receivers Kendall Wright and Terrence Williams had torched the Frogs' defense for six touchdown passes, including three at the expense of Verrett, who was playing in his first game after transferring from Santa Rosa Junior College. ...

Definitely had questions about JV after the first few games last year. Now I get to see where he will be drafted in the spring. Way to go Verrett. Never quit, never give up.

Agreed. To me, he is one of the biggest stories of the year. The level of improvement he has had, from being benched at one point to being the anchor of our secondary, is incredible.

Top, do you know for a fact Jason is declaring for the draft?

That would be a huge blow to TCU's secondary in 2013!

Go Frogs!

I'm guessing that Top just got confused and thought Verrett transfered in as a Junior.

I didn't realize he chose us over Boise. Wow that could have been bad. I'll bet all things considered, he doesn't regret that decision one bit.

He's not leaving for the draft people. This kid is going to graduate, and then go into the NFL. Frogs get diplomas first!! That is one of the many things I'm so proud of our atheltes. They get their education and hopefully play in the pros!! Great story about Jason, and always persevere at all cost.

Darn baylor!
Read it in the Startlegram this morning. Its great to be in the Fort for a possible white Christmas.

Im really proud of Jason. He will do amazing things in life whether he's back next year, at the next level, or in the business field eventually.

There may be a moral in that story, not only for players, but for all us armchair experts who were so down on Verrett back then, and like him, as yet unaware that he had faced a Heisman winner throwing to two all-America receivers....

Should be required reading for all incoming players. You will have bad games early that will have you doubting yourself. Know that the coaches will do their part to make you the best player you can be. Persevere, work hard, and things will turn out for the best. And don't stop believing in yourselves, and more importantly, your teammates.
