FWST: Freshman's new role at fullback will give TCU offense more options

TCU freshman Jordan Moore moved to fullback from linebacker over the weekend to help shore up the Horned Frogs' backfield.

Frogs coach Gary Patterson said the move gives the offense another "big back" option for short-yardage situations, along with Laderice Sanders. The move also will help fill the void if running back Matthew Tucker is less than 100 percent for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl on Dec. 29 when TCU plays Michigan State (6-6) in Tempe, Ariz.

Tucker has suffered from back spasms, Patterson said, along with other nagging injuries throughout the season.

"We're going to try to get him ready for the bowl game," Patterson said of Moore, who has played a limited role in 11 games but has no tackles. ...

I hope our running backs coach and so-called OC will show him how to carry a football. This is not good news.

Gary Patterson said he told the Big 12 that he disagreed with its assessment that Oklahoma offensive lineman Tyrus Thompson did not punch TCU's Stansly Maponga during the Dec. 1 game.
"They need to have an onsite adviser, because there were five punches thrown," he said. "I saw it myself. I was standing right there. It's our job to protect student-athletes."

Note to HCGP: The Big 12 HAS an onsite observer at every game they work. But what exactly could he do? That type of call is up to the on-field officials.

suspend him afterwords. Instead they felt a 15 yard personal foul was enough for an assault on another player. Chip block him all game next year.

In post-game meeting, can go over what he saw them do right/wrong, then file a report with the conference.

The conference was dead wrong in describing what the OU player did as a "push." They know he slugged, they are covering it up.

I hope he holds on to the balll. Seems risky putting the ball into a guys hands that has never carried it in a bowl game versus a defense like Michigan States.

I'm guessing it's semi-temporary for the bowl game. If Tucker can't go, then you have Catalon, Dean, and Sanders as the only alternatives at TB/FB on the roster over 5'6". The game against Michigan St. is going to be physical and I'm sure GP just isn't comfortable right now without having an extra body in the backfield to go up against a tough defense like Michigan St., as guys are going to get banged up in the bowl game.

If the move is a success he may stay there, but the Frogs also get Johnson, Hicks, and Green added to the backfield in 2013 to go with James and Catalon - so I think the odds favor a move back to defense as they'll want to get his athleticism and speed on the field as much as possible. Never know what's going on in GP's head though.
