HOUSTON – For the first time since the 2022 Fiesta Bowl, TCU football defeated a ranked opponent, earning a gritty 17-14 win at No. 25 Houston on Saturday.

“It’s hard to win on the road against a Top 25 team,” head coach Sonny Dykes said. “Proud of these guys for hanging in there and not listening to all the negativity. I thought they did an incredible job of keeping their head down and not paying attention to all the junk that was out there.”

The Horned Frogs (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but allowed the Cougars (8-3, 5-3), who are No. 23 in the College Football Playoff rankings, back into the game with four turnovers and multiple penalties that wiped touchdowns off the board.

I'm certain talking to the media after a game is an emotional time regardless of the outcome but TCU is doing this guy a disservice not getting him help on messaging.

This "us against the fans" is not a winning track for him and engenders much of the frustration.

He's making $7-8 million. Grow up. Nobody has an issue with the kids.

There are lots of negative comments about specific players out there. They definitely see those.

Was I supposed to type something here?

This is true, and I am not a fan of it. However, when Wes was adamant about not criticizing players by name it was a time of scholarship athletes and walk-ons. Nowadays, some of these kids are not only on full scholarship, they're getting north of half-a-million bucks to play. Many of us are helping to pay that extra juice, and with the "amateur athlete" thing gone out the window in favor of "paid player" it gets hard not to call out bad play/actions when they happen.

They're getting grown-up money. Now they're getting grown-up (O.K. Dopey and juvenile) criticism.

I don’t have a problem criticizing them. I was responding to his “nobody has an issue with the kids” comment. They are definitely aware of that negativity out there in TCU fandom.

Really would like to hear him say.. "really happy for the win. Kids showed a lot of resiliency. Winning on the road is tough. But we've got to clean some things up and that's on everyone in the program..... "
That, or “we were very happy with all aspects of our performance today in winning the game 56-10. No penalties, 6 sacks, controlling both lines of scrimmage. It was a complete game on all fronts.” Wouldn’t mind hearing that some, too.

Or.... "we put ourselves in a position again that required resiliency to walk away with a win. We must find ways of putting teams away when we have the opportunities to do so. It's bitten us a couple of times this season and was close to biting us a couple of other times. It's frustrating to the coaching staff and our fans. As a staff, we must find a ways to cut the crucial mistakes that keep putting us in these high stakes moments at end of games"

It's on me. Ultimately, I'm the head coach and accountable when we are underperforming.

I understand why our fans are frustrated. We're frustrated. Will continue to work to make it right.

Good. As they should. They aren't amateurs anymore. They get as much blame as the coach, probably more. Sonny Dykes didn't throw double digit interceptions this year but our QB has.
Again I don’t have an issue with criticizing players. But the comment was “nobody has an issue with the kids”. People definitely have issues with the kids. It explains where Sonny’s “not paying attention to all the junk that was out there” comment is coming from.

To be fair, he does say we need to quit shooting ourselves in the foot. The problem is, he doesn't seem to know how to stop it because I've never seen someone's teams self implode in every game like his have over the past three years. It's uncanny, and it is 100% on the coaches to fix...no matter how much he tries to start a feud with players vs fans.

Nobody is criticizing the kids and you shouldn't condone anyone doing it.
