Former TCU star Matt Carpenter had a monster July at the plate for the St. Louis Cardinals.

He clubbed 11 homers during the month, which was the most in all of baseball. He now has 26 homeruns this season, which trails Nolan Arenado of the Rockies (28) for the most long balls in the majors.

On Thursday, the former TCU star was given his first National League Player-of-the-Month award.

Uh...4 American Leaguers have more HRs than Arenado and 7 have more than Carpenter. Good reporting Peter.

But hell of a month for Carp.

Last night's Rangers game had Andrew Cashner facing Yovani Gallardo. Tom Grieve said Schloos texted him that Cashner and Gallardo were part of his first recruiting class, although Yovani decided to sign with the Brewers. Carp was also in that class. Hell of a 1st class.

Matt had homers in each game of the week-end series with Pirates-- those three give him 29 so far.
His slow start this season ( he had16 hits in 113 at bats on May 15th.) has turned into what looks like his best season.
